"Mystic Waters" is a masterful weaving of multi-track orchestrations. This release was one of the best selling new age records of 1989. New age composer/keyboardist Davol had an early interest in music, receiving classical piano training as a child and studying jazz and classical harpsichord in college. Since the acquisition of a micro Moog synthesizer at the age of 13, he had an undying passion for electronic music and was addicted to the music of Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream. Davol began writing and recording his own pieces as a hobby while he studied microbiology. Some of the tapes he passed out to friends made their way to Silver Wave Records, who offered Davol a recording contract. In 1989, he released his debut album, "Mystic Waves", and also received his Ph.D. in microbiology.

Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1989, Mercury Rev quickly grew to become leading figures in left field alternative rock. Earlier albums veered towards experimental, off-kilter psychedelia but by the end of the decade, the band had developed their own brand of serene, piano-based Americana with the acclaimed, best-selling LP Deserter’s Songs (1998). ALL IS DREAM, the sequel to Deserter’s Songs, was originally released on V2 in 2001 in August (Europe) and September (North America) and boasted a more expansive, cinematic production than its predecessor (again courtesy of ex-member Dave Fridmann, by this time arguably the most in-demand producer in alternative US rock). The record was warmly received by critics and fans alike, enjoying higher chart positions than its predecessor (No. 11 UK, No. 17 US, Top 40 in Australia and in various European countries, etc.).

Ennio Morricone was probably the most famous film composer of the 20th century. He was also one of the most prolific composers working in any medium. No exact figure is available, but he scored over 500 films over several decades, plus many dozens of classical works. While his film scores were in almost every imaginable musical style (and for almost every imaginable kind of movie), he was most identified with the "spaghetti Western" style of soundtracks, which he pioneered when providing the musical backdrop for the films of director Sergio Leone. Morricone's palette was extraordinarily diverse, drawing from classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, avant-garde, and Italian music, among other styles. Esteemed by such important figures in modern music as John Zorn (not to mention contemporary directors like Martin Scorsese), he was frequently placed among not just the finest soundtrack composers but the most important contemporary composers of any sort.

Several of the Tangerine Tree volumes have been used as the basis for official Tangerine Dream releases. The project collected just under 300 hours of material (291:39:26).

Oak Leaf is the new album of the french singer-songwriter Raoul Vignal. From 2010 to this day, the french musician has been playing authentic, modern folk music. Forming the essence of his compositions, soothing vocals and delicate fingerpicking played on alternate tunings are Vignal's trademark. His music has often been described by audience as evocative and mesmering. After releasing his debut The Silver Veil (the softest of voices with an album of gold) on the french label Talitres, he toured all over Europe, playing shows and festivals such as Eurosonic, Le Printemps de Bourges, Les Nuits de Fourvière, to name a few. Shortly after, he entered the studio with his touring bandmates and recorded Oak Leaf, a more 'mature' and orchestrated full-lenght. If the compositions remained is own, the arrangements were more of a collaboration between everyone involved in the band.

Anglo-American ears might not credit it, but Steeleye Span was at least as popular in Australia as they were elsewhere around the world, and tours of that continent during the 1970s and 1980s always brought out some of their best ever live performances. Certainly, compared to the lackluster "official" live album that the band recorded in the U.K., the tapes culled for Gone to Australia: On Tour 1975-1984, largely drawn from FM radio broadcasts (but also absorbing the nine-track Australian On Tour live promo LP), recapture a power and effervescence that most people thought had been lost forever.
