Well, the master did it again. These two albums from 1970 and 1971 are marvelous and I never get tired of listening to them.
These recordings do not sound the least bit dated! I like all of the songs on "We've Only Just Begun". Ray does great covers "Close to You", "Everything Is Beautiful", "Let It Be", "I'll Be There", the title track, and a magnificent version of "Make It with You". That's Ray singing on "Everybody Knows", an original and happy track tailor made by Ray
The names may not be familiar, but the songs on this compilation certainly are! Because these are the original versions of songs later made famous the world over. Rock & roll legends like the Beatles and Beach Boys, the Clash and Elvis Presley, would have first heard these songs as treasured 45rpm singles or LP tracks, played over and over on juke boxes and family gramophones. In some cases, the remake was a note for note cover; at other times, the original artist would struggle to recognize their own song! So when it comes to settling arguments about who did the original version, in future you can settle them by referring to the 40 tracks collected here.
This set contains all five volumes of the legendary We Can Fly series in an individually numbered limited edition of 1000. There are over 130 tracks here, which have been remastered for this release, sounding better than ever. Although a few pops and clicks remain, showing up the vinyl source of the material, the overall sound quality is very good.
