Describing Mei Semones' Qobuzissime-awarded debut album, Animaru, might suggest it's incoherent—opener "Dumb Feeling" starts with a sweep of classical guitar before moving to bossa nova-style folk and ends with a rocking outro. Following track "Dangomusic," while similar structurally and acoustically, is sung in Japanese and features a soothing violin flourish. You could go on defining and redefining the sounds here—there's also jazz (both vocal and non-vocal), chamber pop and indie rock—but the unifying, coherent element is Animaru making full use of Semones' wealth of talents.

McCartney II is the second solo studio album by English musician Paul McCartney, released on 16 May 1980. It was recorded mostly alone by McCartney at his home studio in 1979 shortly before the dissolution of his band Wings in 1981. The album is a significant departure for McCartney, as much of it relies heavily on synthesizers and studio experimentation, while its music style ranges from synth-pop and new wave to electronica. The album was initially released to mostly unfavourable reviews by critics, though reception has been more positive over the years and the album has become a cult favourite.

John Wetton had one of the most varied careers in progressive rock. He played in the majority of the big names in prog, in many cases in their classic lineups. His first major band experience came when he joined Family in 1971. He was featured on two of their albums: 1971's Fearless and Bandstand (released the following year). He performed various functions in the group, but his primary role was as bassist. Previous to this group he had recorded with Edwards Hand and Mogul Thrash. He left Family to join Robert Fripp and company in King Crimson, taking a place that had been previously filled by Greg Lake. This would not be the last time the two of them would replace one another.
