Woman in Love

Known throughout country music as "the Guitar Man," singer/songwriter Jerry Reed gained recognition not only for a successful solo career but also as an actor and ace session player. Jerry Reed Hubbard was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 20, 1937; after picking up the guitar as a child, he was signed by publisher and producer Bill Lowery to cut his first record, "If the Good Lord's Willing and the Creeks Don't Rise," at the age of 18. He continued releasing both country and rockabilly singles to little notice until rocker Gene Vincent covered his "Crazy Legs" in 1958.

During World War II, a Jewish woman saves her life thanks to a love affair with a doctor in charge of human experiments in a Nazi concentration camp. The woman then marries and moves to New York, where she raises two emotionally stunted sons. The eldest son battles his sense of disconnection from life while working at a scam modeling agency, where he befriends a charming young co-worker who begins to restore in him a sense of excitement and purpose. The neurotic younger son is locked in a compulsive, co-dependent relationship with his mother.

This album didn't contain any major hits, but it's a respectable, decent effort even though it falls short of earth-shattering. Produced by Ollie E. Brown, Set My Love in Motion finds Syreeta fluctuating between energetic funk/dance jams and mellow quiet storm ballads. The funkier tracks include "Can't Shake Your Love," "Quick Slick" (a number 41 R&B hit), and "Move It, Do It," while the romantic quiet storm items include "Wish Upon a Star," "You Set My Love in Motion," "I Love You," and "There's Nothing Like a Woman in Love.
