They performed at Woodstock in 1969 but Creedence Clearwater Revival were not celebrated, partly because they were not in the film or on the soundtrack albums. It may be due to the fact there were technical problems during their performance and the band were not happy with how they played. The Great Dane released this bootleg in 1989 so while this is in the early days of bootlegs in the digital format, this soundboard recording is good for what it is, even if it may have been a few generations down. It is possible that this was not properly mixed, so blame it on whatever reason but Woodstock '69 may explain why CCR didn't become a part of the Woodstock Generation, even though they were on stage surrounded by 500,000 people. Their performances of "Keep On Chooglin'" and "I Put A Spell On You" purely rocks.

Though the legacy and lore of Woodstock lives on in the memory of its attendees, a new generation can experience the real and unedited festival through Richard Bellak's never-before-seen photographs and John Kane's incredible new interviews.

Issued in 2009, the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, the most famous rock music festival in history, Joe Cocker's performance at the festival turns out to be one of the defining moments of his career thus far. Who knew? Cocker's turn on the stage came on Sunday afternoon, August 17, 1969. He had issued his brilliant debut album, With a Little Help from My Friends, the previous February, and his sophomore follow-up – not as dynamic a recording but a more consistent one overall – would be issued in December. Backed by the Grease Band (not to be confused with the vanguard U.S. outfit the Hampton Grease Band), his 11-song show included six cuts from the debut, two from his then upcoming album (including a dynamite cover of Bob Dylan's "Dear Landlord" that opened the gig), a stellar reading of Ashford & Simpson's "I Don't Need No Doctor," and "Something to Say,"an original that didn't appear officially on one of his own sets until 1973.

Sony/BMG's Legacy imprint decided to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock by issuing a slew of double-disc deluxe packages by catalog artists who played the festival. Each slipcase contains the featured artist's entire performance at Woodstock and, as a bonus, an LP sleeve reproduction of a classic album issued near the time the festival occurred, as well as fine, individually, designed double-sided posters. Johnny Winter's volume in this series contains the remastered version of his self-titled debut album in a snazzy LP cover sleeve. It is one of, if not the greatest album in his entire catalog.
