Kitaro’s Sacred Journey Of Ku-Kai Volume 5 follows the highly acclaimed Volumes 1 through 4 of the series, all of which have earned Grammy nominations. The Ku-Kai series concept arose after the global events on the fateful day of September 11, 2001. Kitaro was traveling on a jet from Japan to Los Angeles when the transcontinental flight was diverted to Hawaii for five days due to the tragedy. It was during this time of disbelief and uncertainty that Kitaro envisioned the Ku-Kai series as a means of uniting the world through music embracing his frequently referenced universal message of peace.

A prolific, Emmy Award-winning composer and pianist, Michael Whalen's impressive career has spanned numerous genres and platforms, from albums of jazz, classical, varied electronic music, and new age music to work on film scores, television themes, audio books, and commercials. After devoting much of the 1990s to material for the screen and early solo recordings such as 1996’s acclaimed Nightscenes, a collection of ambient electronic vignettes, he increased focus on his own classical compositions. The 2000s brought continued work on television documentaries including the series Nature, as well as eclectic solo albums that traversed instrumental piano pieces, electronic music, and piano jazz.

"Mystic Traveller" was created from the musical score to the award-winning documentary television series "Mystic Lands". The series, created by Chip Duncan, explores the world's most sacred places from India to Peru to Bali to Greece. Emmy Award winning composer Chris Spheeris, along with Robert Cory, has created an uninterrupted hour of exotic soundscape evoking culture and ritual as it unravels a global and mystical journey of the human spirit. Chris Spheeris worked with imagination and an open mind, to create a powerful original soundtrack that blends the ethnic sounds of foreign lands with the fundamental rhythms of the spirit of those who celebrate their faith around the world.
