Главная отличительная особенность данного инструмента рендеринга от аналогичных состоит в том, что, по словам разработчиков, программа использует в расчете освещенности корректные физические уравнения light transport (распространения света) и позволяет быстро получать их решения с приемлемым качеством.
Maxwell способен производить очень реалистичные результаты освещения без необходимости прибегать к дополнительным световым эффектам, потому что работает на основе точных физических расчётов.
Научиться работать с Maxwell очень просто. Пользователю лишь нужно указать количество времени, которое должен занять процесс рендеринга и Maxwell автоматически оптимизирует все вычисления для достижения наилучшего результата по времени рендеринга.
