The African drums and rhythms that originated in Yorubaland, have been an integral part of the Santeria religion in Cuba, and a profound influence on the rumbero percussionists on the island. Pedrito Martinez is a premier conga master who hails from the Cayo Hueso barrio in La Habana, and is also an akpwon (lead singer) and santero priest, guiding the ceremonious drumming and invocations of the spirits. Habana Dreams was recorded in the historic Areíto/EGREM studios in the city, and marks a triumphant homecoming for the prodigal son.

Though she's released six solo discs in her native land of Cuba, the woman affectionately called La Negra is best known stateside for recording with the New York-based group Yerba Buena. On her self-titled debut solo effort for Chesky, she fuses the essence of Cuba's rhythmic folk songs to a sophisticated, contemporary sound.

Eliades Ochoa - Tributo al Cuarteto Patria (2000) is a heartfelt tribute album by Eliades Ochoa, a renowned Cuban musician, best known for his work with the Cuban traditional music genre Son Cubano. Cuban-born percussionist Pedrito Martinez is an acclaimed musician who plays a dynamic mix of traditional Cuban rumba, Afro-Latin jazz, and Spanish flamenco music. Martinez initially grabbed attention after moving to New York in the late '90s and playing with the Yerba Buena collective, Claudia Acuña, Mark Weinstein, and others. He has also won praise for his solo work, including garnering a Grammy nomination for 2013's Pedrito Martinez Group.

The Bay City Jazz Band is the 1956 self-titled album by the band of the same name. Originally released on the Good Time Jazz, this was released on CD in 1994 by Original Jazz Classics/Fantasy Jazz and is remastered by Phil De Lancie.
