The third studio full-length from the Oxnard, California-based powerviolence/grindcore unit, You Will Never Be One of Us clocks in at just under 22 minutes. Their longest outing to date, the ten-track set would be less of a marathon were it not for the epic eight-minute closer "They Come Crawling Back," a doomy, thrashy, and relentlessly brutal bit of business that boasts the album's lone fade-out; it actually exhausts itself. The rest of You Will Never Be One of Us closely mirrors Nails' previous offerings, delivering forehead-melting blastbeats, whammy bar-induced audio grand mal seizures, and lyrics that target the sickly sweet spot between apoplectic and hopeless.

As a sometime member of Porcupine Tree and a resume containing being a guitar tech for Marillion, John Wesley certainly has the prog rock credentials so it’s no surprise to find he has carved a resolutely progressive career from his own music. From the Marillion aided Under The Red And White Sky through to 2014’s Disconnect, Wesley’s music has developed from emotionally wounded ballads to more esoteric fare. His influences may have always shone through, but along the way Wesley developed a sound of his own…

‘I Could Be Happy‘, the band’s fifth studio album and also an original track by Altered Images, does just that showcasing 6 more handpicked and carefully crafted reworkings of tracks from the likes of Brian Eno, The Ramones and The Cure to name a few. In contrast with previous releases ‘I Could Be Happy‘ is the first release to feature original material from Nouvelle Vague themselves and while these tracks don’t have the same “damn, I know this track, but do I…” feeling that their previous repertoire offered they remain accomplished and enjoyable within their own right.
