Yves Robert

Born in Chambéry in 1976, Renaud Capuçon studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Gérard Poulet and Veda Reynolds. He was awarded first prize for chamber music in 1992 and first prize for violin with a special distinction from the jury in 1993. In 1995 he won the Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts. Then he studied with Thomas Brandis in Berlin, and later with Isaac Stern. Invited by Claudio Abbado in 1997, he continued his musical experiences as konzertmeister of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester during three summers with Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Daniel Barenboim, Franz Welser-Moest and of course Claudio Abbado. In 2000 he was nominated “Rising Star” and “New talent of the Year” (French Victoires de la Musique), in 2005 “Soliste instrumental de l’année”, also by the French Victoires de la Musique, and in 2006 “Prix Georges Enesco” (Sacem).

Huguette Grémy-Chauliac est une claveciniste française née le 8 juillet 1928 à Paris. Avant de se consacrer pleinement à la musique, Huguette Grémy-Chauliac s'orienta vers l'archéologie en suivant les cours d'archéologie romaine de l'École du Louvre de 1947 à 1949. Le clavecin, dont elle deviendra une interprète majeure, ne fut pas son premier instrument de prédilection, puisqu'elle étudia d'abord le piano auprès de Blanche Bascouret de Gueraldi, Germaine Willaume, Joseph Morpain, Lucette Descaves et Yves Nat.

Mathilde von Guise was one of Hummel’s best known operas, partly because the composer actually issued a printed piano score which was published in Leipzig in 1823. It was written for Vienna where it was premiered, in German, at the Kartnertortheater. As was the case with all German lyric drama at the time, it was in the form of a singspiel: with spoken dialogue. Hummel decided to perform the work again in 1821 at the Court Theatre in Weimar where he was working and made some minor revisions to the piece, along with changing the overture.

This is French opera at his best, before this authentic style was gone: beautiful silver tones from a now lost period. I bought this record more than 40 years ago and it is still unpassed.
