NOW Music are excited to present the next in our latest series - ‘NOW 12” 80s’. This instalment – 1981 – is released on October 20th 2023.The 12” single was a dynamic and increasingly essential part of the release schedule as the decade progressed. Incorporating extended (sometimes full album) versions, remixes, and re-inventions – they not only gave the dancefloor a longer version, and the listener an alternative take, but also highlighted the artistry of the producer – bringing together all kinds of elements to create new soundscapes woven together with the original track, either vocal or instrumental, to present another reason to be excited on release date.

James Fletcher Hamilton Henderson Jr. (December 18, 1897 – December 29, 1952) was an American pianist, bandleader, arranger and composer, important in the development of big band jazz and swing music. He was one of the most prolific black musical arrangers and, along with Duke Ellington, is considered one of the most influential arrangers and bandleaders in jazz history. Henderson's influence was vast. He helped bridge the gap between the Dixieland and the swing eras. He was often known as Smack Henderson (apparently because of his skill as a batter playing baseball in college).

Now That’s What I Call Music’s year-by-year 12-inch series continues with NOW 12″ 80s: 1983, a 4CD set featuring 46 extended mixes from 1983 in what is ‘part one’ of what will presumably be a two-part offering. Amongst what you might call ‘the usual suspects’ there’s some relatively rare remixes included here, such as Eurythmics’ 12-and-a-half minute remix of ‘Right By Your Side’, the extended version of Adam Ant’s ‘Puss ‘N’ Boots’ and and the 5.40 Jellybean remix of Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson’s US chart-topper ‘Say Say Say’. 1983 was obviously a massive year, so you can guess some of the artists represented here, including Tears For Fears, Paul Young, Howard Jones, Wham!, The Human League!

NOW Music proudly presents the next electrifying chapter in the ‘NOW 12” 80s’ series – NOW 12” 80s: 1983 – Part 1, out 19th July 2024. With 46 extended, full-length, or remixed versions that encapsulate the vibrant evolution of 80s music, this collection spans the dynamic spectrum of the year, featuring Synth-Pop and New-Wave hits alongside the catchy grooves of Pop-Dance and Disco. This essential compilation is perfect for both dancefloors and collectors. CD1 opens with two of 1983’s biggest artists with Wham!’s "Bad Boys”, followed by Eurythmics’ (over 12 minutes remix of) "Right By Your Side”. Revel in the huge tracks from Duran Duran with "Union Of The Snake (The Monkey Mix)", and the extended “Communication” by Spandau Ballet. The Human League keeps the momentum with their massive hit "(Keep Feeling) Fascination", while Howard Jones and Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark keep the Synth-Pop strong with "New Song" and "Genetic Engineering" respectively. Extended versions from Blancmange, Ultravox, and Tears For Fears are also featured on the stunning first disc.

The Grateful Dead bid adieu to their faithful fans with a series of concerts in 2015 called Fare Thee Well. The shows, held in Santa Clara and Chicago, were billed as the last time the Dead alumni would share the stage together but, in typical Dead fashion, several members reconsidered that notion upon the project's conclusion. Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart harbored the desire to carry on, but Phil Lesh declined the opportunity to return to the road, leaving the trio with the task of replacing their bassist in addition to finding a substitute for Jerry Garcia (Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio filled that role for Fare Thee Well, but decided to return to his main gig). John Mayer – a newer convert to the Dead who struck up a friendship with Weir – was recruited to play guitar, bassist Oteil Burbridge was hired alongside keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and this new incarnation of the Dead was dubbed Dead & Company. Following a Halloween unveiling in 2015, Dead & Company set out on the road in 2016. The tour went so well, the band headed back out on the road in the fall of 2017, followed by a summer tour in 2018.
