This album contains a remarkable show from what is sometimes referred to among the cognoscenti as Chris Hillman s 'Firefallin' Burrito Brothers' Tour. This was an early show on the tour and took place immediately following the demise of the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band. Hillman called up buddy and former FBB alumni Rick Roberts, who had recently formed a new band called Firefall. FF were practicing and playing together but did not yet have a record deal nor had they performed in front of an audience. So Roberts, along with his Firefall mates guitarist Jock Bartley (who had also, earlier, played with Gram Parsons), bassist Mark Andes (formerly of Spirit), and ex-Byrd/Burrito Michael Clarke, joined the temporary and hastily put together group which for the sake of simplicity were blandly dubbed the Chris Hillman Band. However, for the purposes of this gig at the famous Denver night-spot, Ebbets Field, they were referred to as Chris Hillman and Friends.

Middle of the Road is a Scottish pop group who have enjoyed success across Europe and Latin America since the 1970s. Before ABBA established themselves in the mid 70s, Middle of the Road were the sound of early europop with their distinctive harmonies and lead vocals from Sally Carr. Four of their singles sold over one million copies each, and received a gold disc: "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep". "Sacramento", "Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum" and "Soley Soley". Contains songs from the first three Burritos albums, plus several unreleased tracks.
The greatest selling point on this "Best Of" collection is the incredible job the producer did in cleaning up and freshening the sound quality. One of the biggest problems with the original Burrito's releases was the often muddled and muffled sound and overbearing bass lines. The songs and the writing were always better than the quality of the studio versions. Not so here! I don't know how they did it, but every song here sounds better than the original version….clear, fresh, crisp treble tones are audible for the first time and the stereo separation seems more distinctive as well. They also did an outstanding and inclusive job in selecting the songs. Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, and Flying Burrito fans should run, not walk, to add this to their collections!

Formed in 1968 by departing Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, the Flying Burrito Brothers boasted a stellar lineup of talent during their first half-decade of incarnations, including the Eagles’ Bernie Leadon and pedal steel legend “Sneaky” Pete Kleinow. But by 1972, soon-to-be Firefall founder Rick Roberts needed to recruit virtually a whole new band to fulfill tour dates already contracted for the Burritos. Enter bluegrass fiddle player Byron Berline and guitarist Roger Bush of Country Gazette, plus others, for a concert recorded in Amsterdam in 1972. A double vinyl LP capturing this show was released in Europe in 1973 but was never picked up in the U.S. until now. Live in Amsterdam 1972 features an entire bluegrass set followed by a selection of country-rock standards including “Wild Horses”, “Sin City,” and ‘Christine's Tune.”
