The People's Century is a television documentary series examining the 20th century. It was a joint production of the BBC in the United Kingdom and PBS member station WGBH Boston in the United States. First shown on BBC in 1995, the 26 parts of one hour each deal with the socio-economic, political, and cultural movements that shaped the 20th century. The documentary won the International Emmy Award, the George Foster Peabody Award and several others.

During World War Andreievich Yuri Zhivago (O. Sharif), physician and poet, married his cousin Tonia (G. Chaplin) falls in love at the front of the nurse Lara Antipov (J. Christie). In 1917, the outbreak of the Bolshevik Revolution, took refuge with his wife and son in a village in the Urals where he meets Lara again and she becomes his lover.

With military historian Norm Christie as our guide, we explore the battlefields, cemeteries and monuments of the First World War. The men who fought tell their stories, and we discover how the naive, amateur soldiers of 1914 became, by 1918, perhaps the most feared, efficient and deadly Allied fighting machine on the Western Front: the "Canadian Corps."
