Exclusive 2005 Australian collection features tracks that span her entire career while the liner notes were written by influential Australian Journalist and unabashed fan, Dino Scatena. Nancy Sinatra's influence remains plastered all over modern day pop culture. For instance, director Quentin Tarantino recently explained that his latest films, Kill Bill 1 & 2, were directly inspired by listening to Nancy's version of the song 'Bang Bang'. Tarantino used that recording to open the movie. Nancy Sinatra is undeniably one of the greats and this is a great CD. This collection features all of her biggest hits 'These Boots Are Made for Walking', 'Lighting's Girl' and 'How Does That Grab You, Darlin'?'.

This 22-track, remastered collection of disco hits includes original LP or 12" versions of such Motown classics as Rick James's "You and I" and Diana Ross's "The Boss." When people talk about the `Motown sound' they usually mean the golden period of the 1960s, the mighty pop soul ballads of Smokey Robinson, or jive-perfect dancers by the likes of the Supremes or Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. It's often forgotten that, along with many of its artists, Motown adapted well to the 70s disco boom and the new sounds coming out of labels such as Salsoul, Philadelphia International and TK.

"The Great German Songbook" Is there really one? Yes there is although most people are not aware of it, especially the Germans themselves, who seem to find it hard recognising their own heritage of great popular music - not only the obvious classical greats. Most people do not even realise that "Strangers in the Night" is a German song written by the late Gert Kaempfert in the 60’s.
Six of Germany’s most exciting young jazz musicians have grabbed at the treasury of German songs and have made themselves a bold selection - from the Middle Ages, through the Golden Twenties up to the present day. From the Comedian Harmonists, Zarah Leander, Hildgard Knef all the way up to Bert Kaempfert and recent hits by new superstars Herbert Grönemeyer and Xavier Naidoo…

UK collection, a 20-track retrospective from James Brown's 'funky Soul siren" and one of the most sampled female singers of all time! Nicknamed the "Female Preacher," Lyn Collins was discovered in the early '70s along with her relatives Bootsy and Catfish Collins by James Brown, who was making the transition to the hardest Funk phase of his career. Collins' work has appeared on Polydor compilations like James Brown's Funky People and James Brown's Original Funky Divas, as well as the bootleg singles comp Female Preacher; she continued to tour and perform, most notably at the European Jazz/Funk Festival (in both 1998 and 1999) and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Shortly after returning from a European tour in February of 2005, Lyn Collins passed away on March 13 at the age of 56. 20 tracks. Spectrum. 2005.

Ivan began conventional piano lessons at the age of 10, made his first attempts at improvisation on trumpet a little later, and discovered jazz when he was 17. A masterclass with Michel Herr (then pianist with Toots Thielemans) convinced him to pursue jazz full-time and, in 1988, after six months at Antwerp’s jazz studio, and one year at Rotterdam’s Royal Conservatory (where he studied with Rob Van Kreeveld), he joined the groups of American guitarist John Thomas, Italian trumpet player Gino Lattuca and Belgian trombone player Phil Abraham.

Includes the original versions remastered, all the collectible 7”s, and several unreleased tunes! This is the only complete album of recordings from one of the funkiest bands of all time. This 9-member group from Detroit, is widely considered one of the funkiest bands of all time. This album compiles their highly collectible Detroit gritty funk and also unreleased versions of their known and unreleased tunes, including warm-up sessions and alternate takes found in the band leaders basement. To say these young musicians were proficient beyond their years would be an understatement. At the time this album was recorded, the oldest member was 17 year-old bandleader Clarence Bennett; guitarist Mark Justice was just 15. Nonetheless, their talent and musical maturity earned them the praise and respect of more widely recognized artists and groups (including the Temptations, O'Jays, Chi-Lites, and Stevie Wonder). The Propositions were influenced by many bands from the early 1970's, including Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sly Stone and local predecessors the Fabulous Counts. However, they were determined to create their own unique style. They achieved this by taking a dedicated instrumental direction and abandoning the vocalization that was present on their first two singles. Their final result, a tasty combination of funky drums, wah-wah guitar, and a full horn section, was certainly worth the effort. Now for the first time we can all enjoy the entire collection of the Propositions! (The "Africana" single version is found on the Luv n' Haight compilation Deja Vu).

Entertainment! is one of those records where germs of influence can be traced through many genres and countless bands, both favorably and unfavorably. From groups whose awareness of genealogy spreads wide enough to openly acknowledge Gang of Four's influence (Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine), to those not in touch with their ancestry enough to realize it (rap-metal, some indie rock) – all have appropriated elements of their forefathers' trailblazing contribution. Its vaguely funky rhythmic twitch, its pungent, pointillistic guitar stoccados, and its spoken/shouted vocals have all been picked up by many.
