In 2009, Philadelphia is on the verge of becoming a living example of the best reasons to live in cities. To get there, it needs a vision, one that enables the city to look beyond what it isn’t and imagine what it might be. A vision helps capture the potential of a city’s leadership and people. It fires the collective imagination and provides a clear view of how the future can take shape. These three visions—A New Kind of Global City, A Green + Mobile City, and A City of Neighborhoods—present three distinct, but not exclusive plans for Philadelphia in 2040. It is our hope that the ideas and images presented herein will inspire not only our leaders, but Philadelphians themselves to join us in dreaming of what the future of this city might be.
