24 Bit Julian Lage

American jazz guitarist and composer Julian Lage has released his first album on the renowned Mack Avenue label, his 4th studio album in total. Entitled "Arclight", for this album produced in 24-Bit Hi-Res quality, Lage teams up with bassist Scott Colley and drummer Kenny Wollesen - a shock and awe jazz trio that ultimately deliver a powerful recording, one on which we hear Lage on the electric guitar for the first time, accustomed as we are to his virtuosity on the acoustic.

Speak To Me finds the guitar virtuoso broadening his sonic palette with the help of esteemed producer Joe Henry (Rhiannon Giddens, Bettye LaVette, Meshell Ndegeocello, Allen Toussaint, Elvis Costello) who enhances Lage’s trademark melodic lyricism on this wide-ranging set of compelling new originals. In addition to Lage’s longtime trio with Jorge Roeder on bass and Dave King on drums, the album also features contributions from saxophonist Levon Henry and keyboardist Patrick Warren.

On "Guided Tour", Burton sought out original material from all the group's members, illuminating their wide range of cross-cultural musical styles.

On Gary Burton's debut release on Mack Avenue Records "Common Ground", the Grammy-winning pioneer of the four-mallet technique of playing the vibes is not only delivering his first studio album since 2005, but is also introducing his latest band. Well-known throughout his five-decade career for his quartets (beginning with his 1967 group featuring Larry Coryell, Roy Haynes and Steve Swallow), Burton is returning to the configuration for the first time since the mid 90s. He expresses great enthusiasm for the new band's alchemy. I've always liked the vibraphone-guitar sound, says Burton, whose masterful vibes glisten throughout Common Ground. It's something that I discovered when Nashville country guitarist Hank Garland invited me in the 60s to record with him. The sound of the two instruments together has an ideal timbre and coolness.
