Founded in the Finnish capital some 25 years ago, The 69 Eyes spawned a total of ten full-length records and an additional selection of live, best-of and re-mastered albums. With the release of their tenth and most current studio encounter »X« in 2012, vocalist and frontman Jyrki69 observes the bands’ resemblance with one certain masked superhero: “I just saw “The Dark Knight Rises” and realized that The 69 Eyes is like Batman: we always rise and return - our only mission being to save Gotham City and serve its people. Everybody else is gone, nobody does it better & someone's got to do it. So, sunglasses on and here we go again: the Helsinki Vampires are back!”
Conceived in Finland in 1989, dark rockers, The 69 Eyes, have come a long way and shaped the genre of 'Goth 'n' roll' like no other. Right in time for their 30th band anniversary, “West End” will see the light of day, so prepare for 11 up-tempo rock anthems full of heaviness, black memento mori moments and dark humor featuring several top notch guest vocalists including Cradle Of Filth's Dani Filth, Wednesday 13 and Beastö Blancö's Calico Cooper. The band commented: 'The title 'West End' evokes a dark image - when something dies, something new takes its place and we all have to change in order to stay alive. I feel like this planet is at a turning point. The end of the western world is near and the question is: What will happen when the west ends..?'
Goth 'n' Roll pioneers THE 69 EYES have been haunting stages all over the world for 33 years and seem to be a truly immortal part of the dark rock/metal scene. Widely known as the Helsinki Vampires, the quintet gained several platinum albums with "Blessed Be" and "Paris Kills" and not only reached #1 of the single and album charts in their home country of Finland, but also plunged the world into a sinful cosmos of love, death and melancholy, while outliving any other band emerging from the goth hype of the early 2000s. By developing their sound further into sleaze rock on "Devils" (2004) and "Angels" (2007) and not shying away from pitch black Elvis allusions in singer Jyrki 69’s dark voice and unique onstage dance moves, the band has established a worldwide following.
Released in October 1969, the 2nd album from this underrated Welsh band is generally regarded as the more 'progressive' of the two records released under the Eyes Of Blue name. This time the band focused on more complex structures (including some Eastern influences) and instrumental interplay (check out the 9 minutes opener ‘Merry Go Round’), with plenty of psychedelic guitar, some classical guitar, organ, mellotron and great vocals as well. lt’s worth noting that the sleeve notes were supplied by Quincy Jones. In 1970 the band changed the name for Big Sleep and released one, very rare, Spanish-only single ‘Largo’ and then the whole album called ‘Bluebell Wood’ (1971). This CD has been carefully remastered and expanded with two rare single tracks!
Jyrki 69, lead vocalist for Helsinki's darkest and deadliest goth metal band THE 69 EYES, will release his first-ever solo album on June 23 via Cleopatra Records. The disc, titled "Helsinki Vampire", builds on the distinctive "goth 'n' roll" sound that THE 69 EYES honed over the course of a dozen albums (millions of units sold collectively worldwide) while adding a more richly textured, darkly romantic atmosphere. Jyrki's vocals, which have always been crucial to the band's success, are as exceptional as ever on the new solo venture, a captivating baritone croon that evokes both Jim Morrison and Glenn Danzig. Since the entire album has been produced, mixed, and mastered by longtime THE 69 EYES producer Johnny Lee Michaels, fans will find this album to be closer to the band's classic sound. This is pure "goth 'n' roll" from Helsinki as we all know it! Several of the tracks from "Helsinki Vampire" have already been picked up for use in upcoming movies, including the horror film "Sunset Society" (starring Lemmy from MOTÖRHEAD) and "Halloween Hell House" (starring "21 Jump Street"'s Richard Grieco and the voice of MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine.
2017 debut solo album from the frontman for Finnish goth metal icons The 69 Eyes, who've sold millions of albums worldwide. Jyrki's dark and brooding croon mixed with atmospheric keyboards and heavy guitars make this one of the most anticipated releases of the year, with tracks already being featured in several g films including the horror film Sunset Society (starring Lemmy from Motörhead), and Halloween Hell House (starring 21 Jump Street's Richard Grieco). In their early years, The 69 Eyes' sound was closer to glam metal, but since the album Blessed Be they have shifted into gothic rock. Jyrki's low and operatic vocal tone is reminiscent of fellow musician Peter Steele of the gothic metal band Type O Negative and has been heavily influenced by Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Glenn Danzig.
