Joanie Madden - Song of the Irish Whistle 2
mp3 | 320 kbps | 111 mb | 46 min
Genre: New Age, Celtic

A follow-up to A Whistle on the Wind and Song of the Irish Whistle, this CD continues in the same vein, featuring Joanie Madden on an array of Irish whistles, backed by an even wider array of guest instrumentalists. The selections are, again, mostly traditional tunes arranged by Madden and Brian Keane, with a few original compositions thrown in for good measure. Overall, the tone of 'Song of the Irish Whistle 2' falls somewhere between lilting and gently ambling, with occasional forays into the livelier, percussive realm of jigs and other dances.

Part of the generation that has given us artists like Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Mem Shannon and Larry McCray, this man Larry Garner writes thought provoking songs that we today in 2009 can relate to. If you find you can't relate to the 'downhome-ness" of Robert Johnson then Larry Garner will definitely bring you up to date as he mentions issues that we all face in the 21st century. I would say he is an artist who is best seen live but for those unfortunates who can't then his CDs are a fine alternative. The title track hits home. Very true words that most should heed. The guitar work is great but very economical…Larry tastefully uses his guitar to embellish the song not the other way around. No song is just an excuse for a ten minute guitar solo. Watch out for Sonny Landreths phenomenal slide solo on the track "Rats & Roaches In My Kitchen", one of the best slide solos ever done in history! The song is one written by Blues legend Silas Hogan, a man who appears to have influenced Garner alot. Don't Run Talking" a song about idle gossip is so factual. i'm sure most of us have experienced what Larry sings about. Every track will educate you because Larry Garner is a poet of the Blues. You won't be dissapointed if you get this one.

The latest project by the trombone master Craig Harris brings together a fine selection of American jazz players (Al McDowell, Kelvyn Bell, Tony Lewis) with the master gypsy musicians of Turkey, led by Barbaros Erköse. On their debut album ’Istanbul,’ Craig Harris and The Nation of Imagination travels over so much terrain that it’s almost mind-blowing. Calling it "jazz" makes sense, of course, but by the time this album is over you will have heard Gypsy music, soul, rap, reggae, hard rock, folk music, you name it.

Despite the aggression its title implies, Kiss My Axe is the work of a softer, more reflective Al di Meola, who had become greatly influenced by Pat Metheny's subtle lyricism, but still had a very recognizable and distinctive sound. Di Meola's new approach was perfectly summarized when, in 1991, he told Jazz Times he wanted to be "enchanted" by the music instead of dazzling listeners with his considerable chops. One thing that remains is the guitarist's strong interest in world music – this imaginative session liberally incorporates Latin influences as well as Middle Eastern and African elements.

VOICES was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.Guitarist-composer Mike Stern presents a mixed bag of musical ideas on this on VOICES, blending the ethnically diverse singing styles of Richard Bona, Elizabeth Kontomanou, and Philip Hamilton with rock grooves, bop guitar licks, and layers of keyboards. Even though Stern dips his pen into many musical colors, VOICES comes across as a solid, unified effort.
