Live in New York is a six-disc box set of four complete concerts performed American rock band the Doors on January 17 and 18, 1970 at the Felt Forum in New York City. Two shows were played each night, with 8:00pm and 11:00pm scheduled start times on January 17, and 7:30pm and 10:00pm scheduled start times on January 18. The final show featured an extended encore with guests John Sebastian (harmonica and vocals) and Dallas Taylor (percussion) that concluded around 2:30am. Select tracks were previously released on the Doors' live album In Concert and as part of The Doors: Box Set. About a third of the material was previously unreleased.
This is Elvis doing what he did best; captivating audiences around the world with his incredible live shows. Lesser performers would insist on recording and editing their performances but the King had absolute belief in his talent and ability. Throughout his career he was always prepared to broadcast his work live. This is the definitive proof of Elvis as a live phenomenon. None of these performances were pre-recorded. They were all broadcast absolutely live with no edits or overdubs. For these amazing shows there was no safety net, no retakes or the chance to correct a mistake. What you see here is the most honest picture of the most remarkable performer in history.
All told, it's an excellent document of their early days that's strongly recommended to Doors fans.
The idea of a live album as a documentary is a naïvely outdated one. For decades, fans have understood that, if one wanted to hear a tip-to-tail, warts-and-all live performance by one of their favorite musicians, a bootleg would be just about the only way, since the "live" albums typically released by most acts were usually cobbled together from multiple performances (and sometimes even across multiple tours).
Stingingly sweet slide guitar and barrelhouse piano come to life on this spontaneously authentic and passionate recording from these seasoned blues veterans. "This recording contains thirteen of those songs just as they sounded that Sunday when they were recorded live at Mojo Boneyard Studios. This is how the band sounds at any number of clubs in and around the Pittsburgh area. These are all first takes and a fair representation of the energy and spontaneous creativity that the band exhibits when we’re swinging out in the clubs. I had a good time making music with these fine musicians and I'm glad we captured some of it on this recording. It’s been a long time comin" ~ Jimmy Adler
Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the British Pop/Ska outfit's sophomore album including bonus tracks. Originally released in 1980, Absolutely moved away from the band's Ska origins and embraced a style that mixed Reggae, '60s Pop, Music Hall and other genres together into a wholly unified sound. In other words, Absolutely was the first album that truly represented Madness' unique and timeless sound. Disc One includes the original album plus seven bonus audio tracks and three enhanced videos. Disc Two contains 15 tracks recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Digipak features original album artwork and 24 page color booklet including lyrics, photos and liner notes by journalist Paul Lester.
In Concert is the successor CD set to the individual releases of Absolutely Live (which remains in print as a single CD), Alive, She Cried, and Live at the Hollywood Bowl – as none of them presented more than a single angle or two of the group's sound and each confined itself to only a portion of the group's repertoire, the three-in-one release makes perfect sense and is a decent bargain…
