Filmed in 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival, this classic concert captures The Who at the height of their powers, delivering the only live performance ever recorded of the rock musical "Tommy" in its entirety…
One of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Who defined modern music for the past four decades. Now after years of anticipation, some of their most unforgettable moments can finally be experienced with THE WHO: AT KILBURN: 1977. Newly mastered in high-definition with state-of-the-art sound for a spectacular home theater experience, the December 15, 1977 Kilburn show at the Gaumont State Theater in North London…
The bad news is, this is not the complete show. The good news is, what's here, just the "Tommy" portion of the famous (some would say 'infamous') show released on "Live at Leeds", is in excellent quality, better than that found on the Midas Touch Live at Leeds Complete release. It's as near perfect as it can get, at least sound quality wise. Recommended.
Claude Challe's Nirvana Lounge, Vol. 2 ventures even further in a dance direction than the first volume, thanks to tracks such as the Deep Forest remix of "We Enter" and the Rollo and Sister Bliss remix of "We Come One." However, Challe doesn't completely disown his worldbeat roots, particularly on the hypnotic, string-driven "Latin Masala," the Mediterranean-influenced "Deceptively Similar," and the dramatic, percussive "Batu." "Ponger Star," which samples a ping-pong ball being hit as its main rhythm, is another of the album's highlights, reaffirming that even as Challe's music moves in a more mainstream direction, he still leaves plenty of room for creativity. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
The Platinum Collection is a beefed-up, triple-disc version of Tina!, a far-reaching if haphazardly assembled Tina Turner compilation released in the run-up to her 2008 world tour. Whereas Tina! was released in North America, The Platinum Collection was released in Europe a few months later in anticipation of the European leg of her tour. The Platinum Collection is almost definitive at 48 tracks in length. It includes all of Turner's major hits, including six Ike & Tina Turner-era recordings ("Nutbush City Limits," "River Deep, Mountain High," "I Want to Take You Higher," "Get Back," "Come Together," "Proud Mary"), and goes all the way up to the latter-day hits "When the Heartache Is Over" and "Whatever You Need" from her most recent studio album, Twenty Four Seven (1999), and "Open Arms," the one-off single from her best-of compilation All the Best (2004).
