Winter – für den bekannten Tenor JAY ALEXANDER steht fest: keine andere Jahreszeit wartet mit so vielen verschiedenen Lied-Themen auf. Winterlieder wie „Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen“ und „Winter ade“, Adventslieder und natürlich vor allem die Weihnachtslieder, wie „Christnacht“ und „Herbei, o ihr Gläubigen“, machen diese Vielfalt aus. Eine besondere Vorliebe hat der Sänger für Wiegenlieder, die ebenfalls wunderbar in die behagliche Winterzeit passen. Aus dieser schier unerschöpflichen Lieder-Fülle hat sich Jay Alexander für seine weihnachtlich-winterliche CD „Ein Stern geht auf“ mit Freuden bedient. Er wählte bekannte, aber auch weniger oft gesungene Lieder aus und freut sich, dass gerade diese auf dem Album ein Podium erhalten.

Friedrich Guida was born in Vienna on May 16, 1930. He began his musical education at the Grossmann Conservatory and subsequently took private lessons from Felix Pazofsky. From 1942 to 1947 he studied piano at the Vienna Academy of Music under Bruno Seidlhofer and Music Theory and Com position under Joseph Marx . He gave his first public performance in 1944 and, two years later when just 16 years old, won the Geneva International Music Competition. Starting after the Second World War, as a 20-year-old, Guida established himself as a piano soloist with an excel I ent international reputation and even performed at Carnegie HalI in New York City in 1950.

Wolfgang Dauner has now been highly active on the scene for more than fifty years. Dauner hired top young musicians to be around him for the current upgrade to United 2.0. The second United generation, like the first one, is eagerly researching the crossing points between jazz, rock, funk and world music. Featuring some of the finest avant-garde jazz players from Germany and beyond the Ensemble began life in 1975. Pianist Wolfgang Dauner, initially recruiting musicians from his home base of Stuttgart (then a hotbed of avant-garde jazz), put together a rotating cast of musicians, and shared writing and arranging duties with guitarist Volker Kriegel.
