Blues On The Bayou is a 1998 studio recording by B. B. King. In the CD liner notes, B.B. King writes: "Of the many records Lucille and I have had the pleasure of recording over the years, this one is especially close to my heart. It's also one of the most relaxed and, for me, most satisfying… No one was telling us what to do. No one needed to tell us what to do." He adds that he considers the band playing on this album as his best ever and that he got to the studio with the idea of keeping the music simple ("I've felt the urge to go back to basics."). With this state of mind, the record was cut in four days: "Found some old B. B. King songs. Wrote some new ones… All live, all real. No overdubs, no high-tech tricks. Just basic blues." The album won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.

B.B. King - King Of The Blues (1992) [4CD Box Set]

No way can a mere four discs cover every facet of the blues king's amazing recording career, but MCA makes a valiant stab at it. The first two discs, as expected, are immaculate: opening with his Bullet Records debut ("Miss Martha King"), the box continues with a handful of pivotal RPM/Kent masters before digging into his 1960s ABC-Paramount material ("I'm Gonna Sit in 'til You Give In" and "My Baby's Comin' Home" are little-recalled gems). The hits – "The Thrill Is Gone," "Why I Sing the Blues," "To Know You Is to Love You" – are all here, and if much of the fourth disc is pretty disposable, it only mirrors King's own winding down in the studio.

RPM was a hip and happening label formed in LA, and was one of the several subsidiary labels of Modern Records who were the forerunner of ryhthm and blues. RPM quickly became associated with its biggest name, BB King, and then followed with names such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf and Willie Nix. The label was short-lived but this compilation catches RPM in its satisfying prime. This 2 CD set contains 40 original recordings from the RPM Records label, including titles from B.B. King, Lightnin' Hopkins, Johnny 'Guitar' Watson and many more. All tracks have been digitally remastered for optimum listening quality.
