An Icelandic super rock project TRÚBROT were founded in 1969 via two of the most popular bands in Iceland – Karl SIGHVATSSON (piano, organ, keyboards), Gunnar Jökull HÁKONARSON (drums, voices) from FLOWERS, and Gunnar ÞÓRÐARSON (guitar, flute, voices), Rúnar JÚLÍUSSON (bass, voices), Shady OWENS (voices) from HLJÓMUM – against the “commercialized” Icelandic pop scene in late 60s.

Appaloosa’s sole album is a textbook case of baroque folk, which was a term “en vogue” in the late 60’s, and described a folk rock laced with symphonic classical music…

Unbeknown to most fans, So Far was a stopgap release, undertaken by Atlantic Records in the absence of a new Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album to accompany the reunited quartet’s summer 1974 tour.

This album contains otherwise unavailable live performances taken from the October 3, 1970, Big Sur Folk Festival held in Monterey, CA, at the same fairgrounds that hosted the Monterey International Pop Festival three years earlier.

No musicians are credited except for the associate producer title given to keyboard player Larry Knechtel and retaining Bread photographer, Frank Bez, as well as engineer Bruce Morgan, who played an important part in David Gates’ First from 1973 (and who would engineer Bread’s 1977 comeback, Lost Without Your Love ).

This is my favorite John Denver's album, with memorable songs and certainly his best versions. This is the case of "Sunshine on my shoulders" with only his guitar and a bass, will come a later version that adds a string orchestra.

John Denver wasn't merely hot during the mid-'70s; he was omnipresent on radio, TV, and on-stage for anyone who'd have him. Certainly, few artists enjoyed more than one greatest-hits collection – even if critics derided him as a granola-munching, tree-hugging folky who perennially smiled through life's hardships.
