Chilean pianist and composer Fran Suárez, based in Barcelona and immersed in a constant creative musical search, presents his new work in trio with Jordi Mestres on double bass and Jordi Herreros on drums. This new recording presents 11 original compositions in jazz trio format (piano, double bass and drums) using elements of contemporary and 20th-century composition rarely seen in the composition for this format in our environment. The objective is to widen the limits of what is considered jazz composition, opening it to a sound space without a limiting label.
Every once in a great while, the stars align and the muses visit a concert hall to smile beneficently on the musicians assembled there. How else to account for the ineffable chemistry that infuses the best jazz concerts? Well, the muses were working overtime when vibraphonist Gary Burton took to the stage with the Hum Trio and then The Ahmad Jamal Trio. The resulting performance must rank among these musicians best work, with the kind of soul-deep communication that is often expected but so rarely occurs live in concert.
Julian Coryell began playing the guitar at the tender age of 5, & quickly exhibited a natural talent for the instrument (other instruments as well – piano, bass, & drums to name a few). Son of famed guitarist Larry Coryell, Julian’s musical gifts were nourished & he began writing music at a young age. The Coryell household was never lacking in musical visitors, & Julian was exposed to everyone from Miles Davis to James Taylor, each adding to the mix of influences from which Julian is inspired. Julian entered Berklee college of Music at 16 years old & was the youngest graduate a few years later when he was 18 years old. Since then, he has toured & recorded with numerous platinum artists & has released his own solo records on Universal, Sony, & GRP. Since his early years in Berklee College, Julian has been recording his own music as well as other artists.
