The film is based on the life and writing of Russian avant-garde poet of the 1920s Danilo Ivanovič Harms who has become a cult figure in Yugoslavia. Harms wrote about strange and absurd cases, only to became a “case” himself when he was persecuted by the Soviet authorities. The film describes a possible, but bizarre scenario of his last days in 1942. After the authorities have questioned him about his fictional literal characters and their whereabouts he is finally released. As he enters his flat he realizes that events he has been dreaming and writing about have suddenly become real. Namely, an angel looking for a beam, one of the “cases” he described, comes to him asking for help. Harms spends some time with him and his friends Irina and Zablocki wandering through a town full of surreal events and pictures. When one night he dreams about being executed by a firing squad, he is frightened that the dream will also come true.

Well, for every supposed truism there has to be an exception and Evil Dead II is one sequel that is even better than the original. Not so much a follow-up as a ruthless self-parody, Evil Dead II ranks as one of the most visually inventive, relentless, and truly original films ever made. (BBC)

Raising Arizona is one of the reasons why I love the Coen brothers. I'm not a huge fan of all their films, I prefer their comedies, but they are two of the film industries most brilliant creators. They have a sense of humor and visual style rarely found onscreen today. Their films may be somewhat twisted, but they're always original, well-acted and uniquely directed. This film is a comedy classic with amazing performances by Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter. They play a newly married couple who just wants to start a family. Their desperation drives them to commit a horrible crime in the name of parental love.
