Alan Pasqua rises to the challenge of finding new ways to explore ten familiar songs. The veteran pianist's work is complemented by bassist Dave Carpenter and drummer Peter Erskine, sounding more like a trio on a roll in a live performance than one working in a studio, possibly because it was recorded live with just two microphones. There's a touch of Bill Evans at first in Pasqua's interpretation of "The Way You Look Tonight," but he quickly moves into a more personal style, making great use of space and featuring his talented sidemen, too.

Digitally Remastered Double CD Collection featuring 1978's 'christmas Portrait' Backed with 1984's 'An Old-Fashioned Christmas'. CHRISTMAS COLLECTION was released first worldwide in 1996 but took longer to get a release in the US. It combined both Christmas albums, in their entirety, and furthermore featured a near-total-remix of the CHRISTMAS PORTRAIT. “Merry Christmas Darling” was featured in its original album mix from 1978.

Hurriedly put together in the wake of the success of the title song, and containing the follow-up hit "We've Only Just Begun," Close to You is a surprisingly strong album, and not just for those hits. Richard Carpenter's originals "Maybe It's You" and "Crescent Noon" are superb showcases for Karen Carpenter's developing talent, the latter a superbly atmospheric, hauntingly beautiful art song of the kind that Judy Collins was doing well at the time, and gorgeously arranged. There's also a Swingle Singers-style number, "Mr. Guder," showing off their paired vocal talents and more of Richard's arranging talents. Karen's singing on "Reason to Believe" isn't so much somber as it is passionate, as she emphasizes the melancholy component in the song more than most versions. Their version of "Help" lacks the inventiveness of "Ticket to Ride," although it has some pleasing vocal flourishes…

Digitally remastered two CD set containing a trio of albums from the acclaimed vocalist. This set features Nicolette Larson's first three solo albums from 1978, 1979 and 1981. Larson had been a singer with Commander Cody and on the back of that obtained her Warner Bros contract. All three albums made the US Top 100, with Nicolette peaking at #15 and the single 'Lotta Love' making the Top 10. Larson was very much an interpreter of other people's songs, with producer Ted Templeman coaxing the best from her. Larson sadly died in 1997.
