If one had to point to a single initial salvo that launched the garage rock revival movement in the 1970s and ‘80s, it would have to be the release of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 in 1972. Elektra Records had approached rock critic Lenny Kaye (not yet the guitarist with the Patti Smith Group) with the notion of compiling an album of great, overlooked rock tunes, but what Kaye came up with was something significantly different – an overview of the great, wild era when American bands, goaded by the British Invasion, began honing in on a tougher and more eclectic rock & roll sound, and kids were reawakened to the possibilities of two guitars, bass, and drums.

Three CD set. 1992 saw the British indie scene unwittingly poised to go overground and global in the wake of the guitar's revival in the early 1990s. 'C92' captures something of a no-man's land moment in time, with the "baggy" scene brushed aside by American grunge and the artists who'd come to define the rest of the decade only beginning to emerge. From the intensity of shoegaze pioneers Ride and Lush, through to melody-driven 60s revivalists Inspiral Carpets and The Stairs, in hindsight the year can be seen as a period of healthy transition and expansion which ultimately saw the scene pulled together by the music media under the umbrella term "Britpop".

Music festivals were making their great comeback and DJs and dance acts were sharing stages and headline slots with the biggest guitar bands around. This compilation takes a slippery trip through the hedonistic tunes that were filling the dancefloors, fields, front rooms and bedrooms across Great Britain as the country drank, danced and partied towards a new millennium. Featuring over 50 cuts across 4CDs bouncing from Britpop to Trip Hop and bopping from Big Beat to Techno with a superb selection of relentless remixes, chart-topers and chilled beats thrown in for good measure.

Tim Burgess – as self-effacing a band leader, solo star, label runner, repeat memoirist and all-round caffeinated can-do kid as you’ll find – would certainly shrink from the latter accolade. “A hero??” he’d likely mutter with a shake of his boyish mop. “For playing some records?”

Chicagoland native Tristen Gaspadarek is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter who records and performs under the name Tristen. Inspired by Beatles songs on oldies radio and encouraged by her musician father, Tristen began experimenting with music at a young age, recording at home and playing at local coffeehouses. After graduating from De Paul University, she relocated to Nashville to further pursue a career in music. In 2009, she compiled a CD of her home recordings titled Teardrops and Lollipops, which she sold at shows in unique hand-sewn sleeves. In early 2011, she released a more definitive debut called Charlatans at the Garden Gate, an album of smartly written indie pop with strains of folk and Americana.

Love Is the Song We Sing: San Francisco Nuggets 1965–1970 is the fourth Nuggets box set released by Rhino Records. It was released in 2007 and packaged as an 8 1/2 x 11" 120 page hardcover book, the first 73 pages of which were made up mostly of vintage photographs. The compilation focuses on San Francisco Sound bands. Its title is derived from the first line of "Get Together," two versions of which open (Dino Valenti) and close (The Youngbloods) the four-disc set.
