Although during the 50s merengue began as a commercial musical style, it was not until the 80s when lived its golden age. Rich style rhythm, strong personality and simple musical structure assumed them immediate popular success and recognition as orchestra revelation in Dominican Republic. They came to stay in the Billboard chart for 30 weeks and won in Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela.

Robert Jan Meyer also started his own compilation series: "Science Fiction Jazz 1-12 (Vol. 1 at the same time, was the beginning of the "Mole Listening Pearls"- Label) and "Batucada 1-3".
