Cinderella

Cinderella is a 2021 romantic musical film based on the fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. Written and directed by Kay Cannon, it stars singer Camila Cabello as the titular character in her acting debut, alongside Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter, and Pierce Brosnan. Produced by Columbia Pictures and Fulwell 73, it is a modern take from the traditional tale and follows the young Cinderella who lives with her abusive and overprotective stepmother and stepsisters, who murdered her father for his wealth.

Of the major works of Sergei Prokofiev, none (apart perhaps from Peter and the Wolf) have become so well loved by a wide audience as the ballets Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet. From the stage productions, to the orchestral suites, to the piano versions, many of these pieces are universally recognised.

Since winning the 2017 Franz Liszt Competition, British pianist Alexander Ullman has appeared at many of the world’s great venues and with some of the world’s major orchestras – The Philadelphia Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic. He has worked with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Markus Stenz to name just two conductors, and performed at the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Concertgebouw and Gewandhaus, Kimmel Center and Kennedy Center. For his debut album Alexander has chosen Russian ballet repertoire arranged either by the composers, or in the case of The Firebird by Busoni pupil Guido Agosti, and Mikhail Pletnev for Tchaikovksy’s Nutcracker Suite. This is a highly virtuosic programme that showcases Alexander’s extraordinary technique. His is a name to watch.

A new box set from Cinderella titled The Mercury Years released on September 28, 2018 and includes the following albums: ‘Night Songs‘ (1986), ‘Long Cold Winter‘ (1988), ‘Heartbreak Station‘ (1990) and ‘Still Climbing‘ (1994), plus a disc of live tracks and B-sides.
