Classica 2017

In this 100th show in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust, The Who performed their nearly 50 year old landmark rock opera Tommy in its entirety along with a second set of 7 greatest hits at London's historic Royal Albert Hall. The Who have toured Tommy before, in 1969, 1989 and again in 2002, but this set includes every track performed live from the 24 track studio album, including the side 4 rarity Welcome . All the big anthems are in full force here. See and feel the music once again!

On his debut ATMA recording, Québécois pianist Jean-Philippe Sylvestre revives André Mathieu’s Concerto de Québec alongside Rachmaninov’s colossal Piano Concerto No. 2. This album features the Orchestre Métropolitain under Alain Trudel, and was recorded live during the 2017 Festival Classica.

The Brussels Philharmonic and music director Stéphane Denève will appear on Deutsche Grammophon. Brussels Philharmonic is the first symphony orchestra in Belgium to work with this record label. For its second recording with the more than 100-year-old Deutsche Grammophon, the orchestra opted for the ballet music of Sergei Prokofiev. Denève’s touch is clearly noticeable: he created a new musical dramaturgy, choosing from the existing suites, giving rise to new and exciting combinations.
