With the 62nd edition of the Sunshine Live Sampler buyers get 60 top-class tracks on their ears. The first disc of Sunshine Live's official compilation begins with "Pizza" by Martin Garrix. A nice opener! But it does not stay that way. With tracks like "Tiësto featuring Christian Burns - In The Dark", "Hardwell feat. Alexander Tidebrink - We Are One" or "Fedde Le Grand and Dannic vs. Coco Star - Coco's Miracle" it continues with fulminant EDM. The second CD starts with music from the Netherlands. "Sander van Doorn & Alok - I House U", "Hardwell & KSHMR - Power" and "HI-LO & ALOK - Alien Technology" say hello. Wonderfully underground, but very cool and clubbig.

A mainstay on the New York Jazz Scene, bassist Pete Coco is excited for the upcoming release of his debut album as a leader, “Lined with a Groove,” featuring drummer Matt Wilson and pianist Sullivan Fortner. The LP is an homage to his mentors and influences, with fresh arrangements of tunes by bassists including Ron Carter, Milt Hinton, Ray Brown, Charlie Haden, Paul Chambers and more. The album drops March 4, 2019.

Goombay Dance Band This Germany-based theatrical band was in a similar vein to the more successful Boney M. They were led by Olivier Bendt, and included his wife Alicia, children Danny and Yasmin, plus Dorothy Hellings, Wendy Doorsen, and Mario Slijngaard. Olivier is by profession a fire-eater who learnt his trade in St. Lucia, West Indies. By 1980, the Goombay Dance Band was one of the most successful acts in Germany, and entered the UK charts with ‘7 Tears’. Originally recorded in 1980, it was only released in the UK in 1982 and, after many previous flops, its success was something of a surprise. It eventually went all the way to number 1, only the second UK chart-topper by a German act following Kraftwerk’s ‘The Model’. The follow up ‘Sun Of Jamaica’ fared less well and the band returned to Germany to continue their domestic success. However, occasional singles still received a UK release, such as 1986’s ‘A Typical Jamaican Mess’.

Progressing to darker, bassier sounds like Chris Coco and Kiko Navarro to represent the sun falling behind the horizon. It creates a spellbinding atmosphere by placing oddities such as the mystery of the Bulgarian voices, Lisa Gerrard, Finland & Aaskoven, alongside dance tracks that take inspiration from world music and new age (ethereal female vocals; bongo-lead percussion; samples of self-hypnosis tapes, flutes; wave-sounds).
