This Concord release is most notable for featuring the obscure but talented violinist Joe Kennedy, who spent the bulk of his career teaching music in the Richmond, VA area. Teamed with pianist Billy Taylor, bassist Victor Gaskin and drummer Keith Copeland, Kennedy is the lead voice on many of the eight straightahead Taylor originals and he plays at the peak of his powers; it is a real pity that he did not record more during his career.

The very first release by the Concord label was a quartet set featuring guitarists Herb Ellis and Joe Pass, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Jake Hanna. Ellis and Pass (the latter was just beginning to be discovered) always made for a perfectly complementary team, constantly challenging each other. The boppish music (which mixes together standards with "originals" based on the blues and a standard) is quite enjoyable with the more memorable tunes including "Look for the Silver Lining," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Georgia," "Good News Blues," and "Bad News Blues." This was a strong start for what would become the definitive mainstream jazz label.

Digitally remastered and expanded four disc (three CDs + DVD) edition of this 1973 album from the Rock 'n' Roll legend including a bonus CD containing nine rare tracks, a bonus documentary CD and a bonus DVD that features rare footage, music videos and behind the scenes features and the One Hand Clapping documentary. Band On The Run was released three short years after the Beatles' split and would become one of the biggest selling albums of Sir Paul's entire solo career. Collectors will be especially thrilled by the 4 disc (3CD, 1 DVD) deluxe edition which adds an extraordinary 120-page hard bound book containing many unseen and unpublished photos by Linda McCartney and Clive Arrowsmith, album and single artwork, a full history of the album complete with a new interview with Paul and expanded track by track information for all four discs.

Ancient Celts is part of a series of books by Concord Publications about the armies of the ancient world. This series, called the 'Fighting Men 6000' also covers 'Ancient Armies' and 'Barbarians'. This particular book is another fine contribution between Tim Newark and Angus McBride, with Newark writing the text and McBride as the illustrator. …
