For a brief period at the end of the 1960s and the start of the '70s, Blood, Sweat & Tears, which fused a rock 'n' roll rhythm section to a horn section, held out the promise of a jazz-rock fusion that could storm the pop charts. The band was organized in New York in 1967 out of the remnants of the Blues Project by keyboard player/singer Al Kooper and guitarist Steve Katz of that group, and saxophonist Fred Lipsius. The rhythm section consisted of bassist Jim Fielder and drummer Bobby Colomby, and the horn section was filled out by trumpeters Randy Brecker and Jerry Weiss and trombonist Dick Halligan.

Adelmo Fornaciari, more commonly known by his stage name Zucchero Fornaciari or simply Zucchero, is an Italian rock singer and Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. His music is largely inspired by gospel, soul and rock music, and alternates between ballads and more rhythmic boogie-like pieces. Zucchero's voice is gritty and textured, but he sings with a great sensitivity and lyricism, and these same qualities are mirrored in his songwriting. By blending blues, pop, and adult contemporary, Zucchero's music can be quite affecting. He is credited as the "father of Italian blues", introducing blues to the big stage in Italy. Zucchero is one of the few European blues artists who still enjoy great international success.

When this cycle of the symphonies of Shostakovich with Dmitri Kitajenko conducting the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln was released in 2005, Shostakovich cycles were no longer the novelties they had been in the latter years of the twentieth century. There were already several superlative cycles in circulation – the monumental Kondrashin, the modernist Rozhdestvensky, the anguished Barshai – and a pair of superlative cycles nearing completion – the commanding Jansons and the compelling Gergiev – when the Kitajenko – Köln cycle was issued on Capriccio in superaudio sound…

This album from the UK's most exciting and innovative jazz trumpeter/composer and his band effortlessly epitomizes retro-cool. Though still only in his twenties, Gerard Presencer has performed as a soloist with some of the biggest names in pop and jazz, including Sting, James Brown, Chick Corea and The Brand New Heavies, and he has recorded five albums and toured worldwide with the Charlie Watts Quintet and John Parricelli. The Optimist is Gerard's follow up to Platypus, hailed by The Observer as "a brilliant debut". This album shows why he was voted best trumpeter at the British Jazz Awards in 1995, 1997 and 1999.

Gerard Presencer - Platypus (1998) [Reissue 2000]

or FLAC (carefully converted & encoded to tracks) 24bit/96 kHz | Full Scans included | 1,33 GB

Gerard Presencer's recording debut as a leader is very impressive. He's a virtuoso trumpeter but plays flugelhorn throughout this recording with four of the younger virtuosi from the London jazz scene. Here the normal grammar and syntax of jazz are permanently in evidence, the rhythm section of Cleyndert and Stacey is magnificent, and there are are fine solos from the leader, pianist Rebello and guitarist Parricelli.

Though he passed from cancer in 2008 at the young age of 52, jazz and rock guitarist Hiram Bullock lives on in the music he left behind. A music lover from the start, he played saxophone and bass guitar before claiming his place as a guitarist at the age of 16. He went on to appear on several albums with saxophonist David Sanborn, as well as other artists' session for record producer Phil Ramone. Mr. Bullock later started the 24th Street Band and the group made three albums. The 24th Street Band made several appearances on "Late Night With David Letterman" whenever Letterman's keyboardist Paul Shaffer needed a band. Shaffer dubbed them The World's Most Dangerous Band while Mr. Bullock, himself, earned the nickname "The Barefoot Guitarist". Those joining Mr. Bullock for the Late Night Talk album include organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke on electric and acoustic vibs, acoustic bassist Ed Howard and Idris Muhammad on drums.
