"A wholly persuasive realization of what, conceptually and musically, is surely the most forwardlooking stage work to have emerged in Europe over the past decade." (International Record Review)
Martin Lutz (b. 1974) is an artist of bold strokes in both style and genre. While his intimate and hauntingly beautiful Stabat Mater (2007) and reflective Two Marian Motets (1998) are musical settings of much-loved religious poetry, the accompanying works are devoted to earthly love in its most spellbinding form. Presented for the first time on CD, the choral compositions of Martin Lutz show the otherwise jazz-oriented composer from a more classical side.
Music by Danish composer Anders Koppel (b 1947) springs from disparate musical influences. He was trained as a clarinetist and pianist, and since his father Herman was a composer and pianist, Anders grew up in a classical environment. But he also spent years in an experimental rock band. His musical language is tonal, with pungent dissonance, and his harmonies take interesting turns. Of the three concertos offered here, the Sinfonia Concertante (2007) for violin, viola, clarinet, bassoon, and orchestra is the most absorbing.
This is the tenth volume in the Dacapo's acclaimed series of the complete symphonies by W.A. Mozart, recorded by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and their renowned Austro-Hungarian chief conductor Adam Fischer.
Mozart complete! Seven years of work with W.A. Mozart’s symphonies come to completion with this monumental release, containing 45 symphonies, including eight unnumbered youth works.
12 Studies' forms a three-way journey through composer Bo Gunge’s (b. 1964) own life of music, a range of human moods and a series of western music’s most tantalizing intervals. All twelve pieces, characterized by their simplicity and expressive clarity, are performed in both solo and duo versions; through this mirror the music shows its duality, born of a solid idea but let loose – uninhibited and free. In a widespread 2016 vote, Danish radio listeners at P2 Classical chose a choral piece by Bo Gunge as their favorite piece of new music composed after 2000. This is Gunge’s first release on the Dacapo label.
When the Nazis invaded Denmark in 1940 Koppel, a Jew, immediately evacuated to Sweden. The post-War return to his native land coupled with the unfolding of the true nature and extent of the horrors perpetrated on the Jews and many other peoples drove Koppel back to the Old Testament. Three works, all from 1949, resulted: Three Psalms of David for tenor, choirs and orchestra and two song cycles - Five Biblical Songs and Four Love Songs from the Canticles of Solomon.
The Danish DJ, composer and producer Katrine Ring is one of the few DJs at the international level who has specialized in classical music. On this album she remixes and deconstructs a number of chamber concertos by the composer Vagn Holmboe in a musical game of hide-and-seek that breathes new life into the works in a constant play of memory and recognition. The original recordings by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra and the conductor Hannu Koivula are included as a bonus CD.
