Finding the Limits of the Limes

Finding the Limits of the Limes: Modelling Demography, Economy and Transport on the Edge of the Roman Empire by Philip Verhagen
English | PDF,EPUB | 2019 | 339 Pages | ISBN : 3030045757 | 33.60 MB

This book demonstrates the application of simulation modelling and network analysis techniques in the field of Roman studies. It summarizes and discusses the results of a 5-year research project carried out by the editors that aimed to apply spatial dynamical modelling to reconstruct and understand the socio-economic development of the Dutch part of the Roman frontier (limes) zone, in particular the agrarian economy and the related development of settlement patterns and transport networks in the area. The project papers are accompanied by invited chapters presenting case studies and reflections from other parts of the Roman Empire focusing on the themes of subsistence economy, demography, transport and mobility, and socio-economic networks in the Roman period.

The Epidemiology of Aging

The Epidemiology of Aging by Anne Newman, Jane A. Cauley
English | December 12th, 2012 | ASIN: B00APXD5KY, ISBN: 9400750609, 9402400443 | 611 Pages | EPUB | 6.10 MB

The average age of the world’s population is increasing at an unprecedented rate and this increase is changing the world. This “Silver tsunami” emphasizes the need to provide advanced training in epidemiology and increase the cadre of experts in the study of aging. This book is designed to summarize unique methodological issues relevant to the study of aging, biomarkers of aging and the biology/physiology of aging and in-depth discussions of the etiology and epidemiology of common geriatric syndromes and diseases.

Multistate Analysis of Life Histories with R

Multistate Analysis of Life Histories with R by Frans Willekens
English | PDF(Repost),EPUB | 2014 | 323 Pages | ISBN : 3319083821 | 33.64 MB

This book provides an introduction to multistate event history analysis. It is an extension of survival analysis, in which a single terminal event (endpoint) is considered and the time-to-event is studied. Multistate models focus on life histories or trajectories, conceptualized as sequences of states and sequences of transitions between states. Life histories are modeled as realizations of continuous-time Markov processes. The model parameters, transition rates, are estimated from data on event counts and populations at risk, using the statistical theory of counting processes.
