Nisennenmondai is the world’s best-kept secret among noise rock enthusiasts. Since the Y2K bug of the band’s Japanese-translation-namesake was still a thing, the instrumental trio has been spinning post-punk, no wave, and krautrock influences into something fresh and surprisingly danceable, though without much attention stateside. Recent Nisnenenmondai releases have consisted of a live album and some singles that are impossible to track down in the States, but thankfully, their latest EP, N, has been properly released through American digital retailers.

A return to their roots, with additional retro flourishes. On their first release for eight years, following singer Sharleen Spiteri’s detour into solo work, Texas have gone back to basics, reconnecting with the solidly crafted simplicity of their earliest albums, Southside and Mother’s Heaven. And beyond the sturdy pop-rock of Spiteri and bassist Johnny McElhone’s melodies, an outside player makes a sizable impression on proceedings. Seven of the 12 tracks were recorded at Richard Hawley’s studio in Sheffield, his evocatively retro fingerprints especially evident on the lovelorn ballad I Will Always and the girl-group swagger of If This Isn’t Real. Bernard Butler also lends a hand, but the signature sound still revolves around Spiteri’s luscious voice, at its most alluring on the Blondie-like Hearts Are Made To Stray.

Erica hides her real identity as the policemans wife and is invited to join the museum association. Already during the first meeting she attends the associations chairman is found murdered... C’est une musique sortie du cœur d’une nuit sans Lune que nous offre Zad Moultaka sur les trois pièces servies ici. Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) nous faisait découvrir pour notre plus grand plaisir la musique du compositeur libanais lors de son premier concert cette saison et ces enregistrements, réalisés au Québec en 2012 et 2013, en rendent le pouvoir évocateur avec brio, Lorraine Vaillancourt dirigeant son ensemble avec sa clarté habituelle. Percussions obsessives, riche palette sonore (concerto pour cymbalum avec Alexandru Sura, concerto pour guitare avec Pablo Màrquez) et images en abondance, la musique de Moultaka est forte et elle transporte l’auditeur en des lieux qui valent vraiment le détour. Une belle découverte.

Ambition got the better of Brad Paisley on 2013's Wheelhouse, coaxing him into the briar patch that was "Accidental Racist" an ill-conceived cross-cultural duet with LLCool J which generated a flurry of headlines that camouflaged how the album straight-up flopped on country radio. Wheelhouse was Paisley's first record since Play not to go gold, and even that is misleading because that 2008 effort was an instrumental album and those never sell in large numbers; subtract that from his stats and the 2013 record achieves the ignoble status of his first-ever album not to reach gold and, perhaps more importantly, his first not to generate a number one single.
