Ambition got the better of Brad Paisley on 2013's Wheelhouse, coaxing him into the briar patch that was "Accidental Racist" an ill-conceived cross-cultural duet with LLCool J which generated a flurry of headlines that camouflaged how the album straight-up flopped on country radio. Wheelhouse was Paisley's first record since Play not to go gold, and even that is misleading because that 2008 effort was an instrumental album and those never sell in large numbers; subtract that from his stats and the 2013 record achieves the ignoble status of his first-ever album not to reach gold and, perhaps more importantly, his first not to generate a number one single.

Having released his first album Holy Week in 2005, followed by three further studio albums and a 2013 collaboration with Mark Lannegan (Black Pudding) Duke Garwood should be a name that more people are aware of. He admits “When I was young and pretty, I could’ve become a star…Luckily, I didn’t have any inkling to. I didn’t know what I was doing; I wanted to play music the way I wanted it to be played. That probably saved my life”. Whilst that relative haze of obscurity may well be one that he now self-endorses in hindsight that is all set to change.

C’est une musique sortie du cœur d’une nuit sans Lune que nous offre Zad Moultaka sur les trois pièces servies ici. Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) nous faisait découvrir pour notre plus grand plaisir la musique du compositeur libanais lors de son premier concert cette saison et ces enregistrements, réalisés au Québec en 2012 et 2013, en rendent le pouvoir évocateur avec brio, Lorraine Vaillancourt dirigeant son ensemble avec sa clarté habituelle. Percussions obsessives, riche palette sonore (concerto pour cymbalum avec Alexandru Sura, concerto pour guitare avec Pablo Màrquez) et images en abondance, la musique de Moultaka est forte et elle transporte l’auditeur en des lieux qui valent vraiment le détour. Une belle découverte.

When asked who would be the successor to her throne, world renowned jazz vocalist Rita Reys always pointed to Fay Claassen. So, it was only logical that after Reys sad demise in 2013, it was Claassen who teamed up with Rita s last working band, the Peter Beets Trio, for an Amsterdam performance in honor of Europe s First Lady of Jazz. This album was recorded live during that tribute concert.

As a child, she always wanted to sing, but her dreams of enlisting in the Army and attaining a degree in radio and TV broadcasting took her on a slight detour.Since completing her 7 1/2 year term with the US Army, Annika has blazed the Houston blues music scene. With her self-motivated career taking the city by storm, Annika has had the opportunity to work with many of the well-known talents in the area such as Brad Absher, Paul Ramirez, The Mighty Orq, and many others. In the fall of 2012, Annika along with The House Rules Band entered the International Blues Competition. Although they did not proceed past the final round, she has had numerous opportunities to showcase her talent. After the city-wide competition, Annika took advantage of an opportunity to create a demo CD with Larry Fulcher of the Phantom Blues Band and Richard Cagle, both of whom were judges for the IBC Competition.
