Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the satire War Machine. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Hell or High Water, Lawless, The Proposition). Also included are four tracks by electronic music artist Roedelius. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 26, 2017 (click here to download) and physically a couple of weeks later. War Machine is directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The Rover) and stars Brad Pitt, Topher Grace, Emory Cohen, Tilda Swinton, Anthony Michael Hall, Will Poulter, Jonathan Ing and Ben Kingsley. The movie is based on the book The Operatorsby Michael Hastings and follows a four-star U.S. military general who is sent to Afghanistan to bring the war to an end, but finds he himself is the one under attack. The film will be released globally on May 26, 2017 on Netflix.

Frank DeVol, veteran composer of Aldrich films (Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?, Hush… Hush Sweet Charlotte, The Flight Of The Phoenix, The Dirty Dozen) melds old-fashioned marching tune for the cavalry with dynamic action material for variety of intense skirmishes. March typically plays on brass, woodwinds and percussion with minimal support from strings. Interestingly, DeVol also scores the action with brass and woodwinds in the lead, percussion in support and strings - mainly cellos and basses - in subordinate role. Violins get their say in select sequences but this is imposing, edgy, often-rousing and decidedly ferocious music. DeVol gets considerable contrast with both muted and open brass.

Warren Ellis is an Australian musician and composer best known as a co-founder of the instrumental rock trio Dirty Three; for his film score collaborations with Nick Cave, and as a member of Cave's bands the Bad Seeds and Grinderman. A classically trained violinist, Ellis studied in Melbourne before busking his way across Europe in the late '80s. In 1992, he formed Dirty Three with guitarist Mick Turner and drummer Jim White, and the group made their debut a year later. Throughout the '90s, Ellis maintained a healthy output of music, releasing a string of acclaimed records with Dirty Three and first collaborating with Nick Cave, then joining the Bad Seeds as a full-time member. Over the years, Ellis has also collaborated with Marianne Faithful, Cat Power, and the Avalanches, among others. He made his solo debut in 2002 with the experimental Three Pieces for Violin EP, which featured music he'd composed for Canadian dance company Holy Body Tattoo.
