Guido è un giovane ebreo che si trasferisce ad Arezzo con l'amico Ferruccio Papini. Durante il tragitto Guido incontra casualmente una giovane maestra di nome Dora, da lui soprannominata principessa. Arrivato in città, viene ospitato dallo zio Eliseo, capo cameriere dell'albergo più lussuoso della città di Firenze, dove Guido va a lavorare come cameriere.

In 1930s Italy, a carefree Jewish book keeper named Guido starts a fairy tale life by courting and marrying a lovely woman from a nearby city. Guido and his wife have a son and live happily together until the occupation of Italy by German forces. In an attempt to hold his family together and help his son survive the horrors of a Jewish Concentration Camp, Guido imagines that the Holocaust is a game and that the grand prize for winning is a tank.

La vita di Dora (Ambra Angiolini) finisce sottosopra quando il suo compagno Davide (Massimo Poggio) la lascia dopo sette anni di relazione e due figli piccoli, Pietro di cinque anni e Micol di appena uno. Dora si rifiuta di elaborare il 'lutto' sentimentale fino a quando, messa ai ferri corti da una psicologa 'odiosa', capisce che è arrivato il momento di dire la verità a Pietro. Spronata dall'amica Sara (Carolina Crescentini), trova finalmente la forza di reagire ma la vera rinascita arriverà quando finalmente capirà che le risposte alle sue domande vanno cercate dentro di lei.

Black and white, gay and straight, mothers and daughters, class, and coming of age. Jo is working class, in her teens, living with her drunk and libidinous mother in northern England. When mom marries impulsively, Jo is out on the streets; she and Geoffrey, a gay co worker who's adrift himself, find a room together. Then Jo finds herself pregnant after a one night stand with Jimmy, a Black sailor. Geoffrey takes over the preparations for the baby's birth, and becomes, in effect, the child's father. The three of them seem to have things sorted out when Jo's mother reappears on the scene, assertive and domineering. Which "family" will emerge?

When David's father dies, his mother remarries. His new stepfather Murdstone has a mean and cruel view on how to raise a child. When David's mother dies from grief, Murdstone sends David to London to work for a living. When David escapes to his aunt Betsey his life starts to get better.

Tony Richardson continued in the vein of kitchen-sink realism with this adaptation of Shelagh Delaney's novel of working-class life. Set in England in the early 1960s, A TASTE OF HONEY stars Rita Tushingham as the waifish Jo, a plain 17-year-old girl who is dragged from one shabby bed-sitter to another by Helen (Dora Bryan), her promiscuous, alcoholic termagant of a mother. When Helen and her current lover, Peter (Robert Stephens), take a holiday in Blackpool, Jo goes along and, while walking on the beach, meets Jimmy (Paul Danquah), a black sailor on leave. After they spend the night together Jimmy's ship leaves for points unknown. Helen and Peter have impulsively decided to marry, and they move into his flat, leaving Jo in the cold. She gets a job in a shoe store, where she meets gay and mild-mannered Geoffrey, and the two decide to move into a flat together. Jo soon discovers she's carrying Jimmy's child, news that depresses her. But Geoffrey couldn't be happier, and he begins knitting baby clothes, goes to a clinic for child-care instruction, and even offers to marry Jo. This moving film is exceptionally well acted and directed; it is a tribute to Richardson's boldness in taking on the theme of miscegenation, then a much more controversial issue.
