Amidst an accumulation of dark, druggy vibes, Live at the Cellar Door shows Young peeking over the edge of the 60s into the dark chasm of the next decade. “It’s about what happens when you start getting high, and you find out that people you thought you knew, you don’t know anymore, because they don’t get high and you do.”

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist T-Model Ford (James Lewis Carter Ford) played a raw-edged, visceral style of blues from the Mississippi Delta, accompanied much of the time by his drummer, Spam (Tommy Lee Miles). Ford caught a break when he opened up on a national tour for Buddy Guy and his band, playing respectable theaters and some festivals, but he was chronically under-recorded. He began playing guitar late in life and hadn't really toured much outside the Mississippi Delta until the 1990s and into the new millennium. Collection includes: Bad Man (2002); The Ladies Man (2010); Taledragger (2011).

The bonus tracks are best sounding studio or live recordings (soundboard/audience) previously released on several bootlegs. The artwork packaging is first rate. Each CD features the original album artwork plus additional album, singles, E.P. or bootleg artwork from various countries (UK, France, Germany, USA and Japan) and full color posters. The silver CD is silk-screened with the original album label too. Sound quality overall is either excellent mono or stereo.

You can do a lot of living in 70-plus years, and fortunately, folk great John Prine has been documenting what he sees for over 50 of them. The album title is redolent of its mood, approaching the twilight years with a sense of wonder and humor. “Knocking on Your Screen Door” counts the blessings of being humble, and “Caravan of Fools” is a not-so-disguised jab at political incompetence. His well-sharpened wit cuts deep; “Crazy Bone” reminds us all to stay weird, and “When I Get to Heaven” describes a rollicking afterlife after-party: “I’m gonna get a guitar and start a rock ‘n’ roll band/Check into a swell hotel/Ain’t the afterlife grand?”
