2017 release from the Athens, GA-based indie rockers. Elf Power are part of the legendary Elephant Six Collective. This 2017 album is released on the band's own Orange Twin Records, that has released almost 50 albums since 2001, including releases by Neutral Milk Hotel, Vic Chesnutt, Jeff Mangum, Jack Logan, Nana Grizol, Gerbils and many more. Orange Twin Records works in conjunction with The Orange Twin Conservation Community, 155 acres of beautiful land on the outskirts of Athens, GA that has initiated the development of a highly progressive, self-sustainable and ecologically-minded cluster village and nature preserve. Elf Power began as a four-track recording project. These recording sessions eventually resulted in the first incarnation of their debut album. Since then, they've become a respected and entirely unpredictable musical entity.

As the Elephant 6 catalog continues to expand, it becomes increasingly obvious that many of the label's bands are concerned not merely with creating fresh and exciting music but rather entire mythologies, crafting obscure concept records exploring the intricacies of strange pocket universes. Existing in the musical gray area between Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel – both of whose members make cameos here – Elf Power's superb When the Red King Comes is a heady journey to a psychedelic utopia, a travelogue with such destinations as "The Secret Ocean," "The Separating Fault," and "The Silver Lake." As imagined primarily by singer/songwriter Andrew Rieger, the album is a odyssey "Into the Everlasting Time," and true to its word, it seems to exist outside of any obvious era – the fuzzy, lo-fi production is an Elephant 6 hallmark, but the unique instrumentation (electric horns, pump organs, even Nepalese percussion) and cryptic, stream-of-consciousness wordplay suggest something altogether different; perhaps most telling is When the Red King Comes' cover, a crazed map suggesting something out of a J.R.R. Tolkien fever dream.

In the summer of 1973, Elf signed a new record contract with MGM Records in USA and with Purple Records in the UK. In early 1974 the band travelled to UK to record their second album at The Manor Studios. It was produced by Roger Glover and was called "Carolina County Ball". However, the USA release was under different name, "L.A./59", and had totally different sleeve. The reasons behind the name change are not known.

New York based Elf Project is the moniker multi-instrumentalist Carl Schultz that has recently released a debut on 10T Records called Mirage. There are several musicians to help Carl fill in the gaps. Mirage contains 10 songs mostly in the 2-5 minute range with the ending track which clocks in at slightly over 10 minutes. The main influences that I hear are The Byrds, The Beatles, Rush to name a few. For the most part the album is rooted in the pop/pysch/prog genres.

So Below offers an alternate journey to a lush, fused trip-hop and rock, psychedelic jungle, especially its eleven minute title track, a musical beehive with bass, electronics, and percussion buzzing in every direction. It also demonstrates blues and trance influences, but much differently from Moroccoland.

The Japanese pianist, Yukio Yokoyama, took up the piano in early childhood, showing an early talent for the instrument and for composition. He played already as a child pieces of his own composition and performed with orchestras both in Japan and abroad. He was introduced to Herbert von Karajan and Mstislav Rostropovich at a young age, who announced that the child should dedicate himself to music. At the age of 12 he started studying piano under Jun Date and composition under Masayuki Nagatomi. In 1984, he won the first prize in the piano division of the All Japan Student Music Concours sponsored by the newspaper Mainichi Shimbun. He entered the high school associated to the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music in 1986, and in the following year went to study at Conservatoire national superieur de musique de Paris with a scholarship from the French Government. There, he studied under Jacques Rouvier, Vlado Perlemuter and others. In 1989 he won prizes at the Busconi International Concours and the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibeaud Concours. In 1990 he graduated from the Paris Conservatoire with grants of Premiere Prix in piano and chamber music. The same year, at the age of 19, he realized the impressive achievement of becoming the youngest-ever Japanese entrant to become the second finalist in the Chopin International Piano Competition, and winning 3rd prize (no first prize was allocated this year) from the Chopin International Piano Competition and also the Sonata prize.

The first question that comes to mind when listening to the new album by pianist Markus Becker is: “Can you do that?” Becker has taken Beethoven’s music on board, and not to perform it as close to the original as possible. In “Regarding Beethoven” the pianist improvises on the old master.

Paul Dessau composed more than 450 works from all the genres, but scarcely a single one of them continues to meet with recognition and representation in today's concert world. The musicians of the Ensemble Avantgarde decided to change this with an impressive overview of the chamber oeuvre of this composer. The young Dessau celebrated great successes with his Concertino in the unusual instrumentation for solo violin with flute, clarinet, and horn already in 1925 and even won a composition prize for it. Dessau himself actually wanted to become a violinist, and Gewandhaus concertmaster Andreas Seidel masters with bravura what at times is a wildly virtuosic solo part.
