Widely regarded as a masterpiece of Spanish cinema, this allegorical tale is set in a remote village in the 1940s. The life in the village is calm and uneventful – an allegory of Spanish life after General Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War. While their father (Fernando Fernán Gómez) studies bees in his beehive and their mother (Teresa Gimpera) writes letters to a non-existent correspondent, two young girls, Ana (Ana Torrent) and Isabel (Isabel Telleria), go to see James Whale's Frankenstein at a local cinema. Though they can hardly understand the concept, both girls are deeply impressed with the moment when a little girl gives a flower to the monster. Isabel, the older sister, tells Ana that the monster actually exists as a spirit that you can't see unless you know how to approach him. Ana starts wandering around the countryside in search of the kind creature. The film received critical accolades for its subtle and masterful use of cinematic language and the expressive performance of the young Ana Torrent.

Professor Calculus has just written a book called "The Earth is Starving". He appears on television to appeal to the scientists of the world to work towards a solution to the hunger problem. Soon afterwards, he receives a package from a Spanish professor, Antenor Zalamea, which contains a blue orange that can be grown in desert soil. Calculus travels to Spain, but a criminal emir who wants the discovery for himself kidnaps both professors. Tintin and Captain Haddock come to the rescue.

Don Lope, un aristocrate âgé, devient le tuteur, puis l'amant de Tristana, une belle jeune femme qu'assaillent d'étranges vision. Celle-ci s'éprend du peintre Horacio et quitte son vieux tuteur pour vivre avec lui. Deux années passent et Tristana, malade et abandonnée par son amant, retourne vers Don Lope.

Tristana (Catherine Deneuve) es una joven y hermosa huerfana que su tio Don Lope (Fernando Rey) acoge con gusto en su casa, tal y como prometió a sus padres. Don Lope se convierte en tutor de la joven, pero no tardará en crecer en él el deseo. Tristana intenta evitar a Don Lope sin conseguirlo, así que sin del todo desearlo se convierte en su amante. Pero Tristana no tardará en encontrar un nuevo amor.

Tristana is an orphan adopted by nobleman Don Lope Garrido. Don Lope falls in love with her and thus treats her as daughter and wife from the age of nineteen, a bit of a scandal, but, by age twenty-one Tristana starts finding her voice, to demand to study music, art and other subjects with which she wishes to become independent. She meets the young artist Horacio Díaz, falls in love, and eventually leaves Toledo to live with him.
