A 10-piece band led by trumpeter Josh Lawrence, bassist Jason Fraticelli, and drummer Anwar Marshall, Fresh Cut Orchestra are at the epicenter of Philadelphia’s vibrant but often-overlooked jazz scene, with members popping up in each other’s bands. The group’s debut is anchored by Fraticelli’s panoramic (think Gil Evans) seven-part suite that centers on the continuum of the life cycle.
