Here, First Choice gets double-disc treatment that provides both the single edits and well-known extended mixes of the biggest hits, including "Doctor Love" (present on the second disc in the form of a Tom Moulton mix), "Let No Man Put Asunder" (the Shep Pettibone mix is included), and "Love Thang" (overhauled by the late, great Tee Scott). It wouldn't be possible to release a better compilation of the group's Salsoul years, though the set has the disadvantage of not being able to cover their earlier years, when they were releasing gorgeous singles like "Armed and Extremely Dangerous," "Smarty Pants," "The Player," and "Guilty."

They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, and they topped the charts worldwide from 1972 to 1983. ABBA gained international popularity employing catchy song hooks, simple lyrics, sound effects (reverb, phasing) and a Wall of Sound achieved by overdubbing the female singers' voices in multiple harmonies. The early Polydor CDs are considered superior sounding to the later remasters, which are often shrill and/or highly compressed.

In honor of its 40th Anniversary, Intrada presents an all-new edition of one of founder Doug Fake's personal favorite soundtracks. The score is not only an important part of Jerry Goldsmith's large body of work, but also Intrada's formative years. First Blood initially appeared as the inaugural release of the Film Music Treasury series, an early version of the Special Collection. In assembling that release, Goldsmith and engineer Len Engel re-sequenced the original Regency album and located one extra track not previously released, using the ¼″ two-track mixes made in 1982 for the LP. However, the ¼″ masters were plagued with an interesting anomaly: though identified with the widely-used professional Dolby A encoding process, they did not possess unique tones identifying the Dolby encoding that allows for calibration of playback machines.
