Between 1970 and 1972, Cat Stevens recorded four albums in the same manner, using the same producer and many of the same musicians, painting the album covers, and assigning the records ponderous titles.

Foreigner promptly followed up its blockbuster debut with the equally successful Double Vision LP in 1978, which featured the FM mega-hits "Hot Blooded" and the driving title track. Foreigner is a British–American rock band, originally formed in New York City & London in 1976 by veteran English musician and ex–Spooky Tooth member Mick Jones, and fellow Briton and ex–King Crimson member Ian McDonald along with American vocalist Lou Gramm. Jones came up with the band's name as he, McDonald and Dennis Elliott were British, while Gramm, Al Greenwood and Ed Gagliardi were American. Their biggest hit single, "I Want to Know What Love Is", topped the United Kingdom and United States charts among others. Another one of their hit singles, "Waiting for a Girl Like You", peaked at number two on the US chart for a record-setting 10 weeks. They are one of the world's best-selling bands of all time with worldwide sales of more than 80 million records, including 37.5 million records in the US.

Foreigner is the self-titled debut studio album by British-American rock band Foreigner, released in 1977. It spun off a barrage of hit singles, including "Feels Like the First Time", "Cold as Ice" and "Long, Long Way from Home". It also features album tracks such as "Headknocker" and "Starrider", the latter of which features a rare lead vocal from lead guitarist and co-founder Mick Jones. The first attempt at mixing the album was done at Sarm Studios, London, but dissatisfied with result the album was re-mixed at Atlantic Recording Studios by Mick Jones and Jimmy Douglass.

Released as a celebration of Foreigner's 40th birthday – its title and album were designed to evoke memories of 4, the band's biggest album – 40 is the third double-disc compilation of the group's classic years to arrive since Jukebox Heroes: The Foreigner Anthology. That 2000 set was designed as a deep dive into the catalog, while The Definitive Collection – released six years later – whittled away nine songs, making it a leaner listen at 30 tracks. 40 does indeed offer 40 songs: 38 songs cherry picked from throughout the group's career, along with two new recordings ("I Don't Want to Live Without You" and "Give My Life for Love"). Among these 38 songs are some relative rarities.
