In 1594 Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa, arrived in Ferrara for his marriage to Donna Eleonora d’Este. His meeting with the musical circles of Ferrara, and in particular with Luzzasco Luzzaschi, was to make an important impact on the musical development of the young Girolamo Frescobaldi. In his maturity Frescobaldi arrived at a deeply personal fusion between the musical forms of North Italian (and more specifically Venetian) derivation and the musical experimentation of the southern school.

Beginning as the backing band for the soul duo Simtec & Wylie, The Southside Movement issued their self-titled debut in 1973 which featured the breakbeat favourite I've Been Watching You, a song that went on to be sampled by a slew of famed contemporary artists including the Beastie Boys, Jadakiss, Erykah Badu, Beck and Hieroglyphics. This digital reissue gives new, high-res life to a soul classic.

After successful screenings on HBO in 1984, the album suddenly climbed the charts, going quadruple platinum. Nine months after the film was released in theaters, the main song in the film, "On the Dark Side", was the number one song in the country on Billboard's Mainstream, Rock, and Heatseeker charts; and #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Another single from the film, "Tender Years", peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. John Cafferty was hired to write a few songs for the film, but he did such a good job of capturing the feeling of the 1960s and 1980s that Davidson asked him to score the entire film. Only Michael "Tunes" Antunes, the tenor saxophone player for The Beaver Brown Band, and Helen Schneider were professional musicians in the cast.
