The recent appearance of wavelets as a new computational tool in applied mathematics has given a new impetus to the field of numerical analysis of Fredholm integral equations.

This book is based on a lecture course given by the author at the Educational Center of Steklov Mathematical Institute in 2011. It is designed for a one semester course for undergraduate students, familiar with basic differential geometry, complex and functional analysis.

This book provides a concise introduction to topology and is necessary for courses in differential geometry, functional analysis, algebraic topology, etc. Topology is a fundamental tool in most branches of pure mathematics and is also omnipresent in more applied parts of mathematics. Therefore students will need fundamental topological notions already at an early stage in their bachelor programs.
