The German rock band Solar Project was founded in 1988 by Robert Valet, Volker Janacek and Peter Terhoeven. The music has a small amount of neo mixed with some elements of symphonic and melodic. The result is nice vocals (male, female and choir) melodic prog style and heavy rhythms. Many albums are marked by Pink Floyd's influence.

Carmina Burana, the staged cantata by Carl Orff, is a work unique in musical history, claims conductor Paavo Jarvi: 'The convergence of medieval texts with such daringly original orchestral colours creates a soundworld that is both archaic and yet beyond time, in which chorus, orchestra and soloists vie in splendour.'

Carmina Burana, the staged cantata by Carl Orff, is a work unique in musical history, claims conductor Paavo Järvi: ‘The convergence of medieval texts with such daringly original orchestral colours creates a soundworld that is both archaic and yet beyond time, in which chorus, orchestra and soloists vie in splendour.’ The work also has an unusual history: composed shortly after the Nazi takeover of Germany, it was at first rejected because of its Latin texts and the erotic character of some of its songs; yet Orff and his work subsequently became highly prized by the Reich. The composer (who was secretly ‘a quarter Jewish’) did not support the regime, but made the best of his success… Orff was 42 by the time he experienced this breakthrough with his Carmina, which he designated as his Op. 1, disowning all his previous compositions. Departing from the Romantic style, he now wanted to create music linked to rhythm, simple repeated melodies, and non-complex forms. This work’s popular success confirmed that decision.

this recording of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana was authorized by the composer himself. It follows, therefore, that the present recording met with the high requirements of the composer himself and so represents an unusual collector's item. Orff intended not just to copy the medieval lyrics but to express the mood of that era. His highly rhythmic compositional style reflects the archaic character of the vocal line. The listener experiences not only the vital primordial pulse of the music in this thrilling interpretation but also the mystery of Fate through the tender lyrical passages. Orff's homage to wine, women and song of the Middle Ages, closely bound up with spring and love, is supported by balanced and precise sound technology. The listener is spirited away to the musical world of Carmina Burana by this recording.

Vision of Peace is a reissue compilation of two of Ravi Shankar's most celebrated Deutsche Grammophon LP recordings 'Towards the Rising Sun' and 'Ravi Shankar Plays Ragas' dating from the late 70's. Shankar's crossover efforts during this period were groundbreaking in their day (indeed, how many have followed his lead in ours!) and here for instance Japanese koto virtuoso Susumo Miyashita and shakuhachi master Hozan Yamamoto are featured in the ensemble in five selections. This is a joyous, inspired celebration by India's most renowned living musical ambassador of peace.
