Dixie Chicks first came together as a bluegrass quartet in Texas in 1989, later becoming a trio in 1995 when founding members (and sisters) Emily Robison (banjo/dobro) and Martie Maguire (fiddle/mandolin) were joined by 21-year-old Natalie Maines (daughter of guitarist/producer Lloyd Maines) as the group's new lead vocalist and guitarist. By the late 1990s, the classic Dixie Chicks trio lineup struck a stunning balance between the traditional Nashville sound and the contemporary influences of alternative rock and pop. In 2016, Columbia/Legacy have reissued the Dixie Chicks classic four studio albums: Wide Open Spaces (1998), Fly (1999), Home (2002) and Taking The Long Way (2006), newly remastered and available on vinyl and digital download.

Just like the drug, all of the acid-drenched stoner rock in the early 21st century can become a bit of a drag. The Japanese have their own take on such things to keep them fresh, but often American bands turn on the down low, so slow and so deep in the riff department that the notion of what an electric guitar can do when played with complete inspiration backed by a symbiotic rhythm section evades them. Enter San Diego's Earthless, who blew pretty much everybody's mind with their debut full-length Sonic Prayer in 2005. They jam as Jimi Hendrix jammed, as Cream and Free and even Humble Pie jammed when they took it outside.

Camila Cabello has announced plans to expand her recent album C,XOXO.
The Magic City Edition of C,XOXO will arrive on Friday, September 6, and feature the new single "Godspeed."
"I wish you well, but far away from me," Cabello captioned a teaser video of the new single, hinting at a possible theme about a breakup. "Always more stories to tell. Some new songs for your night in Magic City," she wrote in the second post announcing the deluxe album.

As big fans of Max, Rough Trade invited him to curate a mix, knowing he would pick out some unexpected gems. The result is a 36-track (on CD) and 33-Track (On Vinyl) compilation of soundbites, pieces of composition, interesting mixes and curious musical choices including tracks from Mogwai, Boards of Canada, Philip Glass, Aphex Twin and Low among some classical works by Rachmaninoff and Bach.
