JSP's second four-CD box set dedicated to the memory of eastern bluesman Blind Boy Fuller opens with his final recordings. The rest of this portable archive is packed with blues and hokum by individuals who lived and worked in the same eastern seaboard region, actually collaborated with Fuller, or performed in a style comparable to his. This is quite similar to how JSP constructed their Lightnin' Hopkins and Sonny Boy Williamson sets. Fuller, whose given name was Fulton Allen, cut approximately 137 sides during a five-year period beginning in 1935. JSP's preceding volume is the ideal tool for appreciating and understanding this celebrated Piedmont-style blues musician, whose greatest claim to fame is the ever-popular "Trucking My Blues Away."

With that out of the way, one has to deal with the music entirely on its own terms. Corea has spent decades playing both electric and acoustic jazz. Vienna 1905: After a carnival party the famous painter Heidenick draws his otherwise engaged girlfriend Anita Helfer with very few clothes on, only blurs her face. The image makes it into the newspaper the next day - but since he can't tell the model's name without offending her influential fiancée, he comes up with the fictional name Leopoldine Dur. Unfortunately there is a secretary with that name, who now gets into the focus of high society - and into Heidenick's, much to Anita's anger.

One of the strongest crossover funk labels of the last decade, Stones Throw pays due respect to modern music's forgotten grandfathers on this most grooving recorded history lesson of impeccable quality. Anchored by the Highlighters' classic "The Funky 16 Corners," whereby the Indianapolis group upped the ante in 1969's craze for bands counting "corners" (read: hit me three times!) by breaking the recorded benchmark with 16, this compilation leans heavily on the James Brown sect and celebrates the lesser-known groups of the genre, who with high talent and low budget put to tape some of the most raw funk ever captured to date.
